Highlights
In Starfield, players can enhance their Starborn Powers by discovering Starborn Temples, which bear resemblance to the renowned Word Walls found in Skyrim. However, a notable distinction lies in the fact that Starfield players are required to locate and interact with three times the number of Temples compared to the quantity of Word Walls in Skyrim.
To avoid the tedious task of visiting 240 Temples to upgrade Powers in Starfield, a mod has been developed. This mod automatically upgrades Powers once Unity is achieved, improving the overall player experience. Additionally, when coupled with the organic improvement of Powers through New Game Plus, it prevents the game from becoming burdensome and enhances satisfaction in maximizing Powers within Starfield.
Starfield no longer features the Dragon Walls found in Skyrim. Instead, players can explore the Settled Systems and discover various Starborn Temples. For those who find the process tiresome, a convenient mod has been created. Despite being compared to Skyrim prior to its release, Starfield shares distinct similarities with Skyrim in terms of Starborn Powers, which can be likened to "dragon shouts in space."
In terms of mechanics, being a Dragonborn in Skyrim and a Starborn in Starfield have notable similarities. Starfield players have a designated button for activating their Powers and can acquire and enhance these abilities by locating Starborn Temples, similar to how Word Walls work in Skyrim. However, in contrast to the roughly 80 hidden Word Walls spread across the Nord province, Starfield players require three times that number of Starborn Temples to fully upgrade their Powers.
Given that there are a total of 24 Powers in Starfield, each with 10 ranks, players looking to maximize their potential would have to visit 240 Temples across 10 Starfield New Game Plus experiences. This requirement can be quite demanding, even for dedicated players. To address this, ConnerRia created a Starfield mod that streamlines the Power upgrade process. With this mod, Powers are automatically upgraded every time players achieve Unity, eliminating the need to repeatedly visit previously-explored Temples.
While existing Starfield mods have already made improvements to the game, the upcoming release of the Creation Kit in early 2024 will enable even more significant changes. The notion of allowing Powers to naturally improve through New Game Plus is a brilliant solution. By the time players achieve Unity and start upgrading their Starborn abilities, much of the initial difficulty in Starfield diminishes. The mod's tenfold reduction in the number of required Temple visits prevents the momentum of New Game Plus from being hindered by excessive grinding.
While some may argue that Bethesda's decision to heavily borrow from Skyrim's Dragon Shouts for the Powers in Starfield is unoriginal, the game truly excels in its implementation of the New Game Plus feature. By eliminating the tedious Temple grind during post-Unity runs, only the most exceptional qualities of Skyrim's Dragon Shouts remain, resulting in a highly gratifying journey towards maximizing the Powers in Starfield. Starfield can be enjoyed on both PC and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
