The FX series Sons Of Anarchy left no character unharmed, not even its protagonist Jax Teller could elude the inevitable end. In total, there were 399 deaths throughout the show's duration, with the highest number occurring in the seventh and final season (28), closely followed by the third season (23).
While some of these casualties were minor figures, a select few were profoundly impactful, forever altering the course of the series. This unpredictability was a key factor in the show's greatness, leaving viewers uncertain about the next victim. Although numerous beloved characters met their demise, there were fortunate individuals who managed to survive the turmoil.
Updated on January 8th, 2022 by Hilary Elizabeth: Despite the willingness of Sons of Anarchy to subject even the most crucial characters to horrific deaths, a surprising number of individuals managed to survive the entire series. Regardless of their deservingness, none of these significant figures in Sons of Anarchy ever encountered Mr. Mayhem.
Ernest Darby
At the onset of the series, Darby made his entrance. He assumed the role of a drug dealer and producer steeped in white supremacist beliefs. The animosity between Jax and Darby heightened as soon as Jax discovered Darby's involvement in supplying methamphetamine to Wendy during her pregnancy with Abel.
Tig Trager
Their relationship remained full of conflict until Darby eventually ended his criminal life and pursued an honest path, surprisingly finding stability with one of the Hispanic women he once employed.Despite his notorious inclination towards violence, it was quite astounding how he managed to endure throughout the entire spectacle. With the multitude of senseless homicides executed by Tig Trager, onlookers would likely have anticipated that retribution would eventually catch up with him. Yet, to everyone's astonishment, karma never struck. Tig not only survived, but is presently recognized as the Vice President of SAMCRO, as depicted in the spinoff Mayans M.C.
The seventh season was a turning point for Tig. He experienced a gratifying connection with Venus Van Dam, and following the club's decision for Jax to "Meet Mr. Mayhem," Chibs ascended to the role of President, while Tig assumed the position of Vice President.
Wendy Case
Among Jax's two main love interests, it was widely anticipated by most viewers that Tara would outlast Wendy and emerge as the sole survivor at the conclusion of the show. Regrettably, Gemma's actions resulted in Tara's tragic demise. In the final season, Jax confided in Abel, revealing Wendy's true identity as his biological mother. Consequently, he entrusted Nero with the responsibility of caring for Wendy, Abel, and Thomas. Subsequently, Jax informed both Wendy and Nero of his impending departure.
Wendy had a sense that something was amiss, yet she struggled to comprehend the unfolding events. Unbeknownst to her, Jax's intentions were driven by his contemplation of self-inflicted harm. The club's decision to have him "Meet Mr. Mayhem" had left him burdened with the weight of responsibility, one he refused to impose upon his loved ones. Consequently, he made the painful choice to bear it alone. In the aftermath of Jax's demise, Wendy found herself left to care for their children.
Ima
Ima was most memorable for her intense crush on Jax, and her willingness to mess with Tara in the hopes of winning him over and ending their relationship.
Chibs Telford
Although her attempts to intervene had little actual impact, Jax brutally attacks her when she involves herself in Opie and Lyla's relationship, hoping to coerce her into stepping back. Evidently, the inclination towards aggression towards Ima is a family trait, as Gemma also physically assaults her the last time she is seen, reprimanding her for orchestrating a perilous video shoot for Lyla.
Chibs demonstrated a remarkable calmness and level-headedness in comparison to the rest of the SAMCRO members, making his survival unsurprising. His unwavering discipline proved to be advantageous, elevating him to the position of SAMCRO's President. Notably, Chibs even made a brief appearance in the second season of Mayans M.C., where he provided crucial assistance in facilitating a weapons deal for the Mayans.
Despite enduring countless trials from Jimmy O, Chibs ultimately discovered love in the last season, engaging in a brief relationship with Lieutenant Althea Jarry, who had taken over for Eli Roosevelt. Although they eventually parted ways, fate smiled upon Chibs as he eventually ascended to the role of President.
Ethan Zobelle
In most shows and movies, it's a common cliche for the villain to meet their demise. However, this wasn't the fate for Ethan Zobelle in Sons Of Anarchy. Surprisingly, Zobelle, one of the show's top antagonists, managed to survive. Throughout the first and second seasons, Zobelle instilled fear in SAMCRO and orchestrated a heinous act of assaulting and raping Gemma. As a result, he became one of the most despised supporting characters in Sons of Anarchy history.
It appeared as though the Sons were finally on the verge of avenging themselves when they managed to corner him at a store. Regrettably, their plans were abruptly halted when Jax received a distressing call informing him of Abel's kidnapping, compelling them all to abandon their pursuit. Consequently, Zobelle fortuitously took advantage of the situation and promptly fled the country. Nevertheless, Gemma did find solace in exacting her revenge by ending the life of his daughter. As viewers eagerly anticipated Zobelle's eventual return and demise, their hopes were dashed as he never resurfaced.
Chucky Marstein
To simply label Chucky as a peculiar character would be an immense understatement. From the onset of the series, he was portrayed as a compulsive masturbator, indulging in his desires excessively. This habit, however, exacted a heavy toll on him, as the Triads resorted to severing four fingers on each hand, effectively crippling his ability to satisfy his urges. Despite this unfortunate turn of events, he was assigned a bookkeeping role at Cara Cara, as typing only required the use of two fingers.
Nero Padilla
despite his compulsive behavior, managed to assist SAMCRO in carrying out numerous illicit operations without ever needing to use a firearm. Remarkably, Chucky remarkably avoided falling out of favor with anyone, ensuring his survival until the end and even securing a spot on Mayans M.C.With Nero and Gemma's relationship in motion, the inevitable threat of Clay's interference loomed. Considering Clay's deep connection to Gemma, his intention to eliminate Nero was clear. However, fate intervened when Clay's turbulent past caught up with him, resulting in his demise at the hands of Jax.
Marcus Alvarez
Nero not only became a beloved character but also played the role of a father figure for Jax and a reliable partner for Gemma. During a moment of desperation when Jax contemplated ending his own life, he entrusted no one else but Nero to care for Wendy and their children. Despite being entangled in the club's violent world, Nero managed to survive.Marcus Alvarez had an interesting evolution in his relationship with Jax and SAMCRO over the course of the story.
When
Lyla Winston
first appeared, he was a staunch antagonist of the Sons. However, as time progressed, their relationship transformed into an alliance, with Alvarez even playing a part in safeguarding the club during their imprisonment. Despite the inherent peril that comes with the biker lifestyle, Marcus persevered and ultimately made his way to the Mayans M.C. spinoff.Being involved with a SAMCRO member in a romantic relationship or marriage was frequently perceived as a perilous endeavor, often leading to tragic outcomes for many Old Ladies. However, Lyla, Opie's second wife, defied this grim fate and emerged unscathed. Initially, Lyla worked as a porn star under the employment of Luann. Following the demise of Opie's first wife, Donna, Lyla and the SAMCRO member formed a close bond.
Other club members initially harbored doubts about Opie being in a relationship with a porn star, but his affection for her prevailed, leading them to remain together. Tragically, Opie met his demise, leaving Lyla to endure the hardships of single-handedly caring for their children. Lyla's last appearance was in the Season 7 episode "Black Widower," where she pursued a career as a producer at Red Woody Productions.
Happy Lowman
Initially a member of the Tacoma, Washington charter, Happy Lowman later transitioned into the life of a Nomad before ultimately joining SAMCRO during the third season. Known for his quiet nature, Happy was always willing to step in and carry out any violent tasks that other members of SAMCRO hesitated to perform.
Venus Van Dam
Happy's last appearance was in the series finale episode titled "Papa's Goods." At this point, he had earned the rank of Seargent-At-Arms. He later made an appearance in the first season of Mayans M.C. where he took on the role of mentoring a new prospect. Ezekiel Reyes singled him out as a potential suspect in his mother's tragic demise.Venus Van Dam, a transgender prostitute, captured audiences with Walton Goggins' exceptional portrayal. She first graced our screens in the episode "Orca Shrugged" of Season 5, offering her assistance to the club by participating in the blackmailing of Allen Bicone. Over time, Venus developed a strong bond with SAMCRO, ultimately finding love with Tig.
Thomas Teller
She frequently received diverse assignments from the club, one of which involved tracking down the relatives of the late preacher Jonathan Haddam, whom SAMCRO unintentionally took the life of. In the concluding episode, she was spotted embracing Tig as she offered solace for his grief over Jax's demise.
Thomas Teller's character in Sons of Anarchy remained relatively undeveloped due to his young age. Fortunately, being an infant when Nero and Wendy departed Charming with him, he likely escaped the profound impact of the numerous horrors that enveloped his early life.
And, although allowing one of Jax's infant sons to die seemed unlikely, given how dark of a series the show really was, it wasn't a guarantee that he'd make it to the end.
Tyne Patterson
Serving as a law enforcement officer in Charming was an incredibly perilous occupation. The destiny of almost every policeman and agent who entangled themselves with the Sons resulted in death. From Police Chief Unser to Deputy Chief David Hale to the cunning Agent Stahl, no one evaded this tragic fate. Nevertheless, San Joaquin County District Attorney Tyne Patterson emerged from the midst of this mayhem unscathed.
Abel Teller
Patterson conducted an investigation into the homicide at the Cahill Warehouse in Charming and also delved into the tragic school shooting, where the teenage perpetrator had obtained the weapon from SAMCRO's firearm inventory. She approached the situations with a more diplomatic approach, ultimately striking a deal with Jax. Her last appearance was in the series finale episode titled "Papa's Goods."
Abel clearly didn't emerge from the series emotionally unharmed; however, to everyone's surprise, the boy whose demise had been prophesied in the pilot episode of Sons of Anarchy managed to endure the entire show.
Jax Teller's journey starts when he uncovers his father John's aspirations for a higher quality of life beyond the turmoil associated with the club. Despite ultimately sacrificing his own life, it appears that Jax successfully removes his sons from the realm of crime permanently.
