Taking to Instagram on July 31, she shared a heartfelt message alongside a photo of her and Bennett embracing. Gaga mentioned that she will always cherish their time together, singing, recording, and sharing the stage. She highlighted the transformative power they had in modernizing music and revitalizing it as a duo, emphasizing that their connection was genuine.
Gaga expressed that Bennett imparted valuable lessons to her about music and the entertainment industry. Additionally, he taught her how to maintain a positive outlook and stay grounded. She referred to him as an eternal optimist and always appreciative.
Gaga disclosed that she had been mourning the loss of Tony for a considerable period. Their farewell was profound and enduring. Despite the significant age gap between them, he was her genuine and loyal friend. Their contrasting life stages provided a unique bond and inspiration.
Reflecting on the prolonged grief of losing a close friend who suffered from Alzheimer’s, she emphasized the sacred nature of an era of memory loss in one's life. During this time, vulnerability and the preservation of dignity are paramount. Her only wish was for Tony to remember the depth of her love and gratitude for him. Despite the fading memories, she recognized the incredible vulnerability he shared with her, even as he underwent profound changes. The moment they sang together held immense significance to her, a memory she vowed never to forget. Tony Bennett's impact on her life would always be cherished.
Concluding her heartfelt tribute, Gaga urged her fans to cherish and care for their elders, embracing every moment with them. She promised that these experiences would hold something special, perhaps even magical. Furthermore, she stressed the importance of silence, sharing that some of her most meaningful exchanges with her musical partner occurred without any melody at all.

Gaga and Bennett's unlikely friendship started at a charity concert in 2011.
"It was my first time experiencing Lady's performance, and I was astounded by the audience's response. I went backstage and unexpectedly found her alongside her parents," he recalled in a 2014 interview with Parade. "Without hesitation, I suggested that we collaborate on an album. And just like that, she agreed. I truly admire her contributions to this album. She truly belongs in the same league as Ella Fitzgerald, the legendary vocalist."
Gaga had the opportunity to sing "The Lady Is a Tramp" alongside Tony Bennett on his Duets II album. After her performance at the benefit concert, Bennett expressed his desire to meet her, causing excitement among her family. Gaga shared her happiness about meeting him and how working with him reminded her of the importance of great music amidst the distractions of fame.
In 2014, the musicians released their debut album together, titled Cheek to Cheek. During their tour for the album, Gaga revealed to Parade magazine that collaborating with Bennett had a profound impact on her life.
Without mentioning any names, Gaga expressed that some individuals become irrational when it comes to money, affecting how they treat and their expectations of others. She believed that assisting an artist does not give someone the right to take advantage of them once they achieve success. Gaga confessed feeling deeply saddened, unable to sleep, and emotionally drained. However, spending time with Tony Bennett provided her solace. Bennett desired nothing more than her friendship and vocal talents, which meant a great deal to Gaga, as she found it challenging to connect with many people.
The second album by Gaga and Bennett, titled Love for Sale, was released in 2021 amidst Bennett being 95 years old. During the same year, it was revealed that Bennett had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease back in 2016. In August 2021, he delivered his last live performance at Radio City Music Hall alongside Gaga. CBS aired the concert as a special called One Last Time: An Evening With Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga.
"He is not just a friend to me, but also my devoted musical companion," she declared passionately from the stage. "In my eyes, he remains the epitome of greatness as the world's most exceptional singer," she continued. "New York, I have complete faith in your ability to bring a smile to his face. Hence, I implore you to unleash your fervent cheers, boisterous shouts, resounding laughter, heartfelt tears, and most importantly, to offer your souls in support."
