A clip from Overwatch 2 showcases Sigma using a unique strategy of flinging a rock in the air to hit an opponent like a meteor.
Sigma's abilities in Overwatch 2 have undergone enhancements, including a significant buff to his rock ability. This ability, which typically inflicts damage and propels opponents backward, was employed cleverly by the Sigma player. As a result, it caught the enemy Sigma off guard, effectively interrupting their ultimate ability and potentially granting the attacking team a valuable advantage.
In an Overwatch 2 clip, Sigma astonishes by propelling a rock skywards, only for it to plummet down on an opponent like a meteor. Introduced to Overwatch in 2019, Sigma has demonstrated unique abilities throughout his tenure, with this comical rock throw being no exception.
Thanks to his versatility, Sigma has gained popularity among Overwatch League players such as Indy Halpern and Gi-Cheol Nam. While Sigma was originally part of the Overwatch roster, the hero underwent some changes upon the release of Overwatch 2. Unlike Doomfist, who transitioned into a tank role, Sigma remained a damage-absorbing force that was further enhanced in the sequel. Upon the launch of Overwatch 2, Sigma received significant improvements to his core shield and abilities like Accretion and Experimental Barrier. While his rock ability traditionally inflicts damage and slightly pushes opponents back, this player likely never anticipated being struck by a meteor.
A clip of an Overwatch 2 multiplayer match was recently shared by Reddit user Harvest3r. The payload in Havana was being pushed by a team consisting of Ana, Illari, Junkrat, Sigma, and Widowmaker. The opposing team had Illari, Mercy, Sigma, Soldier 76, and Widowmaker. During the match, the offensive Sigma on the team came up with a clever tactic, using their barrier to block an Accretion from the enemy Sigma. They then flung the Accretion boulder upward from behind the barrier, almost reaching the Overwatch 2 skybox before falling back to the ground and hitting the defending Sigma.
Since the rock was in the air for most of its time, the enemy team didn't pay much attention to it, leading to some unexpected damage. Although the defending Sigma didn't get killed by the Accretion, they were momentarily stunned when they tried to use their ultimate ability. This left the defending team vulnerable, as using Gravitic Flux on the attackers usually causes chaos by sending players up and down. As a result, the defending Sigma's ultimate ability was reset to zero, while the attacking Sigma had a charge of 90%. Luckily, the Sigma hit by the meteor was quickly healed by the nearby Mercy and Illari.
The utilization of the Sigma ability at the initial corner of the Overwatch 2 Havana payload potentially facilitated the team's advancement. The impact of the exceptional Sigma play remains uncertain as Harvest3r's footage ends before the attacking team could progress the payload. Considering Harvest3r's presumed affiliation with the defending side, it is probable that players from both teams took notice of this distinctive strategy in Overwatch 2.
Overwatch 2 is currently accessible on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
