Erica Ortegas and Nurse Christine Chapel intentionally scared Boimler, and his life was at risk when his experiment with Spock went awry. Moreover, anyone would scream if they entered a shuttlecraft only to find Mariner sitting alone in the dark.

Ensign Brad Boimler and Ensign Beckett Mariner, along with Ensign Samanthan Rutherford and Ensign D'Vana Tendi, serve as the co-leaders on the popular animated comedy Star Trek: Lower Decks. They are all junior Starfleet Officers assigned to the USS Cerritos, a California Class starship from the 24th century. Captain Carol Freeman, who happens to be Mariner's mother, commands the USS Cerritos.
