Outside Kani Douraku, Majima comes across a young couple who are engaged in a heated argument. The "Frantic Man" is criticizing the "Frustrated Young Woman," and her frustration grows more apparent as time goes by. Intrigued by the situation, Majima decides to intervene and understand what is happening. The Frantic Man then introduces Majima to a crossword puzzle he created and proceeds to explain it, knowing that Majima has never encountered one before.

Shizuku, the girl in the couple, admits that her boyfriend, Kosaku, has created an exceptionally difficult crossword puzzle, causing her to consider giving up. Surprised by this, Kosaku anxiously urges Shizuku to persist in attempting to solve the puzzle. At first, Majima intends to let them handle their problem on their own.
