Final Fantasy 16 impressively combines familiar elements with fresh storytelling and combat gameplay, allowing players to experience both nostalgia and modernity simultaneously. With a focus on challenging and rewarding encounters, the game presents a diverse range of enemies, including the formidable Morbol creature. This guide will assist players in mastering the strategies needed to overcome this carnivorous plant efficiently.
Following the triumphant vanquishing of the Gigas in the treacherous swampland, Clive and his comrades find themselves confronted by a far more formidable adversary. Behold, the menacing Morbol, with its imposing stature and menacing rows of razor-sharp fangs, poised to sink into the flesh of any foolhardy soul who dares to cross its path.
First Phase
During close proximity, the Morbol exhibits formidable melee strikes and poses a threat even from a distance. Players must remain vigilant and adapt their positioning accordingly. Here are the key elements to be aware of in the initial phase of the battle:
If one gets too near, the boss will either lash out with its body or make an attempt to bite. Swiftly evading these attacks presents an excellent chance to launch a counterattack.
When the Morbol attacks from a distance, it releases a stream of black venom towards Clive. The venom not only causes immediate pain upon contact but also remains on the ground as a hazardous pool. It is crucial to avoid stepping into the gooey substance and instead move away from it.
One of the Morbol's preferred tactics is to utilize its Bad Breath ability. When the warning sign appears, it is important to swiftly maneuver towards the enemy's rear and initiate an attack. By doing so, players can safely inflict damage if they act promptly enough.
After inflicting some damage, the Morbol will submerge into the water and resurface with a wide-open mouth, posing a threat to Clive by attempting to suck him in. At this point, the game introduces the Cinematic Strike mechanic, prompting the player to press Square in order to execute the strike.
If executed successfully, the Morbol will become Staggered, presenting the perfect opportunity to unleash any Blessing of the Phoenix abilities and combos. The additional damage inflicted during this vulnerable state should significantly diminish the boss' health.
Second Phase
After the Staggered phase, the Morbol will enter a state of anger and unleash new attacks. The first one is an area-of-effect (AoE) assault, so players should create some distance when the Morbol stops moving and prepares for the attack. This is crucial to avoid the toxic fumes it emits. Utilizing Fire/Fira spells will enable players to inflict damage from a safe distance, while also ensuring they steer clear of any bubbling water that may be housing the Morbol's tentacles.
Later in the battle, a Cinematic Evasion mechanic will be introduced, allowing Clive to evade danger by pressing R1 within a set time frame. Players can then maintain their offensive and remain vigilant for the Morbol's Wild Rage. During this phase, the creature will thrash about in a particular direction, requiring players to swiftly move out of harm's way. Subsequently, the Morbol will leap into the air and crash down, presenting an opportunity for players to close the distance by executing well-timed dodges and utilizing Phoenix Shift to swiftly approach the creature.
After successfully defeating the monster, players will be rewarded with 50 XP and 70 Ability Points, allowing Clive to further advance in Final Fantasy 16. This highly anticipated game can be enjoyed exclusively on the PlayStation 5 platform.
