Fans were not very shocked when a variant cover revealed the identity of the new Green Goblin, following the launch of Ultimate Spider-Man. This series has consistently defied fan expectations, even resurrecting a surprise character. However, the most anticipated reveal from the first issue is the introduction of the all-new Green Goblin.
Fans have been speculating about the identity of the new character. Many suspected Norman Osborn, but his death in Ultimate Invasion ruled him out, leaving the new Goblin's identity a mystery. After the first issue, numerous guesses were made, but fans didn't have to wait long to find out.
Warning, spoilers for Ultimate Spider-Man follow.
New Green Goblin’s identity spoiled by Ultimate Spider-Man #2 variant cover
Marvel Comics has released the official variant cover for Ultimate Spider-Man #2, which seems to give away a major plot twist before readers have even had a chance to dive into the first issue. The accompanying cover to Ultimate Spider-Man #1 indicates that Harry Osborn may be the new Green Goblin.

Fans weren’t terribly surprised, though. Many had already guessed the twist based on Harry’s brief appearance in the first issue.
One user commented, "Knowing that Norman is dead, this was obvious." Another user humorously pointed out, "From all the speculation about Venom in the PS5 game, I've learned that the obvious choice is usually the right one. Funny that it turned out to be Harry in both cases, lol." This referred to the discussions leading up to the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 about the identity of Venom.
"Predicting it was easy, considering Harry's speech," remarked one user. "I hope we get an amazing Goblin story; every Norman story has been terrible for the past few years."
In the first issue, Harry briefly appears to deliver a eulogy at a memorial for those who died in the final attack of Ultimate Invasion. This attack resulted in the deaths of Norman Osborn, his wife Emily, and Peter's Aunt May.
"More surprising than seeing Uncle Ben was discovering that Harry and Peter didn't know each other. I'm really interested in their dynamic as Spidey and Goblin," one user remarked.
"I have a theory that if Peter hadn't become Spider-Man, he would have met MJ much earlier," one user speculated about the possibility of Peter and Harry never crossing paths. "Without Peter dating Gwen and MJ dating Harry, their meeting could have been purely due to Gwen."

Editor's P/S
As a devoted fan of the Ultimate Spider-Man series, I am thrilled with the unexpected twist revealed in the variant cover for issue #2. The identity of the new Green Goblin has been a topic of intense speculation among fans, and while many suspected Harry Osborn, the confirmation still comes as a surprise. The series has a history of defying expectations, and this latest development is a testament to the writers' ability to keep readers on the edge of their seats.
The reveal of Harry Osborn as the new Green Goblin is both exciting and intriguing. It adds a new layer of complexity to the character, who has always been portrayed as a troubled and conflicted individual. The dynamic between Harry and Peter Parker, now that they are on opposite sides of the law, promises to be both emotionally charged and action-packed. I can't wait to see how this storyline unfolds and how it will impact the overall narrative of the series.
