In Mortal Kombat 1, there are three types of currencies: Dragon Krystals, used for microtransactions, Seasonal Currency, used for exclusive cosmetics during specific seasons, and Koins. Koins are used at the Shrine, which is the MK1 version of the Krypt. By offering Koins at the Shrine, players can obtain random gear, skins, and concept art.
The Shrine features numerous items, some of which are available for purchase as real-money cosmetics in the shop. Acquiring all of these items can be achieved by spending a substantial amount of Koins, typically tens of thousands. While completing all Tutorial challenges is the quickest way to earn Koins in Mortal Kombat 1, there are also various other methods available to help players complete their collection of Shrine items.
Complete The Tutorial (& Kombo Challenges)
To quickly accumulate a large amount of Koins, it is widely believed that participating in the Mortal Kombat 1 Tutorial and completing the additional Kombo Challenges for each character is the most straightforward approach. Simply navigate to the Main Menu, select "PRACTICE," and then proceed to the Tutorial tab. Within this section, players will discover a comprehensive guide that covers everything from basic attacks to the intricate calculations that drive the game's frame data.
Those who possess extensive experience with MK1 can easily complete the regular Tutorial in under thirty minutes, whereas individuals with less familiarity might require more time to grasp all the intricacies of MK1. For each sub-stage, players will receive 250 Koins, and upon successfully finishing each Tutorial category, they can earn over 1000 Koins.
After finishing a tutorial, or completing multiple in a row, you can head to the Notifications tab in your Account menu. Here, you can collect the earned Tutorial Koins. These tutorials can only be done once for Koins, offering a quick but single-use method to earn currency for the MK1 Shrine.
Once you have completed all the basic Tutorials, you can move on to the individual Character Kombo Challenges to earn even more Koins. These challenges vary in difficulty, ranging from simple two-part combos to more complex Aerial and Kameo-reliant combos that may take some time to master. However, the first three or four challenges for each character are relatively easy and can be a great way to practice their basic moves while earning Koins at the same time.
Play Invasions, Towers, & Online PvP
Earning Koins consistently in Mortal Kombat 1 can be achieved by participating in three main game modes: Invasions, Towers, and PvP online matchmaking. While Kasual, King of the Hill, and Kombat League all offer opportunities to earn Koins in online matches, Kombat League provides the highest rewards among the three. Completing levels in Towers grants Koins, while Invasions offer Koins upon completing a set number of challenges.
Although the MK1 campaign does not provide Koins as rewards, it does offer cosmetic rewards, making it a significant feature and attraction for many players.
Play Ranked Kombat League, Not Kasual
While both Kasual and Ranked Kombat League matches provide players with Koins, choosing Kombat League is a more profitable and challenging option. Kombat League pairs players with opponents of similar skill levels and offers a ranking system that grants special seasonal rewards at various competitive tiers.
Kasual matches are useful for practice purposes, but for maximizing Currency, Koins, and XP earnings, investing time in Kombat League is essential. By participating in Kombat League, players not only accumulate more Koins but also advance in rank and acquire exclusive seasonal items, provided they can consistently improve their ranking and win matches.
Complete Daily and Weekly Quests/Tasks
To passively earn Koins, players can complete Daily and Weekly quests found in their Account menu. Access the Account menu by pressing the designated input next to your Account profile banner on the main menu. This will open up the Quests screen. In addition to quests, this menu also displays Character Mastery, account stats, and the Notifications tab for Tutorial Koins.
Within this menu, players can view available Daily and Weekly MK1 quests and their corresponding rewards. While each individual challenge offers a small amount of Seasonal Currency, completing multiple challenges with different fighters will unlock additional rewards. For example, completing five Daily quests may result in a sum of Koins.
Mortal Kombat 1 is available for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
