Two Decades of Excitement: UK and Ireland Secure UEFA Euro 2028, while Turkey and Italy Gear Up for 2032 Co-Hosting

The UK and Ireland jointly selected to host Euro 2028, while Italy and Turkey will co-host the 2032 edition, according to UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin

The UEFA President, Aleksander Čeferin, announced on Tuesday that the UK and the Republic of Ireland will co-host Euro 2028, while Italy and Turkey will co-host the European Championships tournament in 2032. Turkey withdrew its entry to join Italy in hosting Euro 2032, leaving the UK and the island of Ireland as the unopposed bidders.

Euro 2028 is set to take place in 10 different venues. Out of these, six will be located in England, with one each in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland. While England and Scotland have previously hosted games for Euro 2020, this will be the first occasion for Northern Ireland, Ireland, and Wales to hold a major soccer tournament.

Italy won the last European Championships, with the final held at Wembley.

The Euro 2020 final between England and Italy took place at London's Wembley Stadium, which unfortunately witnessed fan disturbances. Prior to the match, several ticketless fans managed to enter the stadium, which is anticipated to hold the final again in 2028.

Around three million tickets will be available for the 2028 tournament, according to the Football Association, the governing body of English football. This is the highest number of tickets ever offered for any previous edition. Initially, Turkey had joined the UK and Ireland in bidding for the tournament. However, last week Turkey decided to shift its focus to the 2032 edition, leaving Italy as the sole remaining bidder.

Italy has hosted the European Championship twice in the past, in 1968 and 1980.

The Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul has been the venue for numerous significant soccer matches, including last year's Champions League final.

Next years European Championship is being held in Germany, with Italy the defending champion.
