VTuber Silvervale recently shared that her mother has been banned from Twitch. With a strong following of over 462,000 on Twitch and over 361,000 on YouTube, Silvervale is a well-known figure in the online community. In May, she participated in a Smite collaboration alongside other VTubers. Prior to this, Silvervale used to be associated with VShojo, a VTuber talent agency based in the US. However, she left the agency in April of this year, leading her fans to speculate on the reasons behind her departure. Some speculate that it could be related to business or her relationships with colleagues and VTuber friends.
Silvervale, an independent creator, continues to stream to her large fanbase and shares aspects of her life, including her mom MamaVale, who is a regular viewer. However, on July 13, MamaVale announced on Twitter that she had been indefinitely banned from Twitch, citing "fraud" as the reason. Twitch's Terms of Service state that impersonation, falsely claiming association with someone, and other fraudulent activities are grounds for banning. Silvervale and MamaVale did not elaborate on the specific violation that MamaVale was reported for. Nevertheless, both of them reached out to Twitch on Twitter, requesting the reinstatement of MamaVale's account, as they believed it may have been a mistake since MamaVale only uses Twitch to watch Silvervale and her friends' streams.
As of now, MamaVale's account remains suspended by Twitch. Many of Silvervale's fans expressed empathy for MamaVale and also tried to capture Twitch's attention in the hope of getting the account reinstated. Additionally, streamer PallysCafe pointed out that MamaVale's ban occurred at the same time as her and MegalodonVT's bans, suggesting possible suspicion. Currently, Twitch has only unbanned MegalodonVT.
Twitch bans often pose a significant threat to streamers as it can result in potential loss of revenue, particularly if the platform fails to provide a proper explanation. While many banned streamers do indeed violate Twitch's policies, there have been instances where bans have occurred due to misunderstandings. Notably, Alanah Pearce experienced a temporary ban after receiving a DMCA strike from Nintendo when reacting to a YouTuber's The Legends of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom video.
Furthermore, there is no specific timeframe for the reversal of a Twitch ban. Some bans may be lifted within a few hours, as seen with MegalodonVT, while others, such as rapper SouljaBoy, may have to wait over a year. Hopefully, Silvervale's mom will not endure an extensive wait to regain access to her account. If all attempts fail, she may need to create a new one.
