Jeff and Shaleia Divine, the founders of Twin Flames Universe, faced criticism when they were accused of leading a cult. Recently released on Netflix, the documentary "Escaping Twin Flames" explores the beliefs and practices of the spiritual group established by the married couple. Jeff and Shaleia assert that they possess special spiritual abilities that allow them to identify a person's soulmate. However, their services are quite expensive, as the ongoing membership charges a hefty $8,888 for its comprehensive package of online courses, guided meditations, and videos.
According to Netflix, the series explores "disturbing narratives of manipulation and pressure within the organization. It offers unique perspectives from former members who share their experiences of being urged to stalk individuals they were attracted to and manipulate their gender identities."
In response to the online backlash and accusations of being a cult, Jeff and Shaleia have addressed the criticism, but their response has received negative feedback.
Twin Flames Universe leaders deny they’re a cult
Twin Flames Universe, in a statement provided to Unilad, emphasizes their unwavering commitment to treating all members of their community with love, acceptance, and support. They assure that this principle remains a steadfast cornerstone and express their continuing affection for those who have chosen a different path, while offering their heartfelt wishes for the well-being and fulfillment of those who decide to explore alternative journeys.
Relating to the allegations that they use control and coercion similar to a cult, they stated: "We acknowledge the recent allegations suggesting that we exert improper control over our community members. Following a thorough evaluation of both media coverage and recent work, it is disheartening to witness such significant endeavor being invested in attacking an organization and a community established upon love and mutual respect.
The allegations against Twin Flames Universe not only distort our true objectives, approaches, and educational programs, but also misrepresent the freedom our community members have to use our resources as they deem appropriate. We are dedicated to addressing these allegations with transparency and accountability.
Our ultimate pledge is to uphold a safe, respectful, and empowering environment for anyone who desires to join or participate in our community.
In Netflix's docu-series, the group's website shared another statement that refutes several allegations. According to the statement, TFU denies being a cult, making improper profit from students, promoting stalking, or separating students from their families. Additionally, TFU denies the claim that their system for pairing students is deceitful and fraudulent, as well as the allegation of forcing some students to alter their gender identities. The group asserts that it is a safe and inclusive space for all LGBTQ+ members.
However, the online community has a different perspective on this matter. In response to Unilad's post, one individual noted, "It is undoubtedly a cult. Moreover, the person behind it becomes defensive when confronted." Another cautioned, "Be careful not to blindly follow them," while a third individual referred to them as "foolish individuals."
Meanwhile, on X/Twitter, someone expressed, "Jeff and Shaleia Ayan are manipulative leaders of a cult and engage in MLM scams." After watching Escaping Twin Flames, another person remarked, "Jeff and Shaleia Divine are the most despicable and twisted cult leaders in history."
