Tuberville pledges to lift Senate holds for confirming military nominations of three-star and lower ranks

Alabama's Senator Tuberville pledges to prioritize military promotions by lifting Senate holds on confirming nominations of three-star and below, strengthening our armed forces

Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville from Alabama announced on Tuesday that he will be lifting the majority of his holds on Senate votes to confirm military promotions. In a closed-door meeting on Capitol Hill, he informed his colleagues that he will be releasing the promotions for nominees with a rank of three stars or below, which includes the vast majority of the nominees.

Amid bipartisan pressure to end his blanket hold on military promotions due to a Defense Department reproductive rights policy, Tuberville announced that he would release his hold on most military nominees, with a few exceptions. This decision, made during a Senate lunch, aimed to unite Republicans and prevent a rules change proposed by Schumer. Tuberville's hold, which began in March, had caused delays for over 450 top military nominees.

After nearly a year of delaying military nominee promotions in protest against the military's reproductive rights policy, Tuberville stated that he has no regrets about releasing hundreds of holds without receiving anything in return. "We did see some progress. It wasn't as much as we had hoped for," Tuberville said.

Tuberville stated that the only way for the minority to be heard by the left is to put a hold on something. While they may not have achieved the win they wanted, he believes that they have brought attention to a bad policy.

When asked about his message to military families impacted by his holds, Tuberville simply responded, "Thank you for your service."
