The incident occurred at a fuel station in Honeydew, a northern suburb of Johannesburg, on Wednesday evening, as reported by South African police.
Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, a spokesperson for the Gauteng police, stated that the suspects used a firearm to threaten and remove the victim from his vehicle. They then proceeded to shoot him once in the upper body.
Following the shooting, one of the suspects fled in Fleurs’ car while being pursued by an accomplice.
The 24-year-old was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital, as confirmed by the police.
Fleurs, a talented youth athlete, proudly represented South Africa at the Under-23 level and was a member of the Tokyo Summer Olympics team in 2021.
