Shaima Refaat Alareer, the daughter of a well-known Palestinian poet, tragically lost her life in an Israeli airstrike that hit her family's house west of Gaza City. This devastating incident occurred on Friday, just four months after her father was killed in a similar attack.

Eyewitnesses and family friends confirmed that Alareer's husband and their two-month-old son were also victims of the strike. The loss of their lives has left a deep impact on their loved ones and the community.

Eyewitnesses in Al-Rimal neighborhood informed CNN that a home where a family was seeking shelter was hit by three Israeli missiles.

The Israel Defense Forces, when asked about the strike, informed CNN that they adhere to international law and make efforts to minimize civilian casualties. However, they mentioned that without specific coordinates and the exact time of the strike, they were unable to provide further comment.

Shaima, the daughter of Palestinian poet Refaat Alareer, tragically lost her life along with several other family members during an Israeli airstrike in December. Alareer had previously spoken to CNN in October, contemplating whether to stay in Gaza City or flee south with his wife and six children. Despite the risks, the 44-year-old writer and academic felt they had no other option but to remain in the north, as they had nowhere else to go.

A video captured by CNN reveals residents rushing to the site of the strike, coming together around the bodies of the victims. The footage displays the house in utter ruins, completely destroyed.

Residents informed CNN that the family's remains were brought to Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital.

Mosab Abu Toha, a Palestinian poet from Gaza and a friend of Refaat who is currently living in Cairo as a displaced person, shared with CNN that Refaat's brother had sadly relayed the news of the tragic deaths of Refaat's daughter, husband, and newborn child on Friday.

Shaima recently shared news about becoming a mother on her private Facebook account, as told by Abu Toha. He showed a screenshot of her message to her late father.

In the message, Shaima expressed, "I have some wonderful news to share with you. I wish I could tell you in person, but I want you to know that you are now a grandfather. Your first grandchild has arrived."

I always pictured you holding your grandson Abd al-Rahman in your arms, but I never thought I would lose you so soon, before you could even meet him.

Journalist Khader Al-Za'anoun from Wafa, the official Palestinian news agency, helped with the reporting.

Editor's P/S:

The tragic loss of Shaima Refaat Alareer and her family in an Israeli airstrike is a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating impact of conflict on innocent lives. As the daughter of a renowned Palestinian poet, Shaima's death is particularly poignant, highlighting the silencing of voices that seek to share their stories and experiences. The destruction of her family's home and the loss of her husband and young son underscore the immense pain and suffering inflicted upon civilians caught in the crossfire of war.

The eyewitness accounts and the footage of the aftermath of the strike provide a chilling glimpse into the horrors of war. The fact that the family was seeking shelter in their home when it was hit raises serious questions about the proportionality and precision of the Israeli airstrikes. The IDF's adherence to international law and efforts to minimize civilian casualties must be carefully scrutinized in light of such tragic incidents. The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in countless civilian deaths and injuries, and it is imperative that all parties involved prioritize the protection of innocent lives and work towards a peaceful resolution.
