Former NFL star Drew Brees is open about the special bond he shares with one of his kids. Brees, 45, mentioned that his relationships with his sons Baylen, 15, Bowen, 13, and Callen, 11, are unique compared to his connection with his daughter, Rylen, 11.

"My boys always tell me that I spoil Rylen by giving her everything she wants," Brees shared on the "Making Space With Hoda Kotb" podcast episode on Wednesday, April 10. He proudly admits, "Yes, she will always be Daddy's little girl and my favorite."

Brees pointed out that his sons tend to ignore his advice. "It seems like they just don't want to hear it," he mentioned. He emphasized the importance for parents of teenagers to expose them to other adults who can share valuable wisdom, such as teachers and coaches. Brees believes that teens are more receptive to life lessons when they come from a different source.

Brees loves coaching and mentoring other people's children because he can be a positive influence in their lives. He takes pride in being called Coach Drew or Coach Brees when he visits his kids' school.

Even though he retired from the NFL in March 2021, Brees continues to coach anything he can. However, he wants to ensure that his own children do not feel pressured by his reputation. He wants them to be able to carve out their own paths.

He continued by saying that his Dad possesses a special knowledge base and skill set that he acquired from his own experiences. He mentioned that he always wants to be there to assist his Dad with that. However, his Dad is currently at a stage where if he needs help, he has to approach him for assistance.

When host Hoda Kotb inquired whether his kids seek his wisdom, he responded by saying that they only do so occasionally.

Most of the guys I coach have an agreement with me. If their son needs coaching, I help out. And if my son needs coaching, I give them a whisper, and they take care of it. They listen to them more than they listen to me right now.

I take my role seriously. I see it as a chance to share my wisdom and guidance with these young men. My hope is that when they face challenges in high school or college, they will think of me as someone they can turn to for advice and support.

Drew Brees, the ex-quarterback, has been happily married to his wife, Brittany Brees, since 2003. In an exclusive interview with We in July 2022, he shared, "I can honestly say that my love for my wife keeps growing each day. I make sure to show her how much she means to me every day. I believe it's important to keep the spark alive in a relationship or marriage, so it doesn't feel like every day is the same routine of getting the kids ready for school."
