Mia Farrow, 78, announced the passing of her younger sister Tisa Farrow, 72, via Instagram on Thursday, January 11. In her post, she expressed her belief that Tisa is being welcomed in Heaven and described her as the best of them all - a generous and loving person who loved life and never complained.
Mia shared the tragic news that Tisa passed away in her sleep on Wednesday, January 10th, describing it as a difficult time for all who loved and admired her deeply. Tisa, the youngest of the Farrow siblings, followed in Mia's footsteps and pursued a career as an actress, appearing in films such as Fingers (1978) and Winter Kills (1979).
"I don't have any advantages," Tisa had said to The New York Times in 1970, referring to her struggles as an actress in comparison to her older sister. "I spent a lot of time auditioning for commercials in the city, but I never landed a role. I often encountered career women who had a preconceived dislike for me simply because they didn't like my sister, Mia."
Following her acting pursuits, Tisa pursued a career as an ER nurse and is survived by her husband, Terry Deane. Together, they had a son named Jason, who passed away in 2018.
Mia took to Instagram to share, "For 27 years, she was a dedicated nurse, a beloved sister to Steffi, Prudence, and myself, and a loving mother to Jason, who tragically passed away in Iraq, Bridget, and her precious grandson Kylor - the joys of her life."
In 1970, Tisa Farrow shared with the Times that she has always been referred to as "the baby" of her family. When her mom introduces her to people, she always calls out, "Baby, come here baby."
Several Hollywood celebrities commented on Mia’s Instagram post on Thursday to honor Tisa. Mary McCormack expressed her condolences, saying, "I'm so so sorry. I can't even imagine how much you must miss her. I wish I could hug you. Sending all of my love to you and all of Tisa's family. ️."
Lesley Warren, for her part, added, “Ohhhh, Mia, I’m so very sorry for this shocking and devastating loss. My love and prayers for grace for you and your family.”
