Tino Livramento has successfully undergone a medical and is poised to join Newcastle, marking a £32m transfer from Southampton. The 20-year-old, who observed Newcastle's victorious pre-season fixture against Villarreal at St James' Park on Sunday, will soon become part of their squad.
The full-back will be the third summer signing for Eddie Howe, joining Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes. When asked to confirm the reports at a news conference on Friday, Howe expressed uncertainty, stating, "Unfortunately, I'm not fully aware of the situation. Let's wait and see what unfolds in the next few days, but I definitely admire the player."
Southampton remained steadfast in their refusal to provide any player discounts following their relegation to the Premier League, as we previously mentioned. This was evident as they maintained their valuations and successfully sold Mohamed Salisu to Monaco for £17.2m. Additionally, they turned down offers from West Ham and Liverpool for James Ward-Prowse and Romeo Lavia respectively.
Southampton turned down Newcastle's £30m offer for Livramento a few weeks ago.
Livramento is poised to become another shrewd acquisition for Newcastle, bolstering Eddie Howe's squad with added depth for the upcoming season.
Livramento, aged 20, joined Southampton from Chelsea in the summer of 2021 for a transfer fee of £5m. Unfortunately, a devastating ACL injury in April 2022 abruptly halted his promising breakout season, forcing the England U21 international to endure over a year on the sidelines.
Livramento made his long-awaited return to the field after 392 days against Brighton at the Amex, where he originally sustained the injury. He came off the bench, marking one of his two substitute appearances last season.
