Warning: This post contains spoilers for season 3 of The Witcher. The second part of season 3 of The Witcher is set to take a much darker turn. The main focus of the show has always been on Geralt of Rivia (played by Henry Cavill) and his efforts to protect Princess Ciri (played by Freya Allan) from any harm. So far in season 3, Geralt has been cautious in ensuring that Ciri doesn't end up in the wrong hands. However, it seems that part 2 of season 3 will push her into a state of complete darkness.
The cast of The Witcher recently spoke to ET Online, and their comments strongly suggest that the upcoming episodes will bring a significant increase in the show's overall darkness. Take a look at their quotes below.
All the cast members seem to agree that the upcoming season of The Witcher will be filled with destruction, chaos, and blood. As Henry Cavill departs the show after season 3, it appears that his final portrayal of Geralt of Rivia will be immersed in utter chaos.
The Future Of The Witcher
The Witcher has always had a dark undertone, but season 3 of the series is expected to take it to new depths. Currently, only five out of the eight episodes have been released, with the remaining three scheduled for July 27, 2023. As the Witcher has been safeguarding Ciri from various forces seeking to exploit her, next month may see him losing custody of his daughter. Even if she manages to escape unharmed, upon her return, he may not be the same person.
Following season 3, it is reported that Cavill will be stepping down from his role as Geralt of Rivia, with Liam Hemsworth (known for his role in The Hunger Games) taking over the character. The showrunners initially contemplated introducing a new Witcher, but ultimately opted to recast the role in order to stay faithful to the original books. Hemsworth is set to star in season 4 and all future seasons of the show.
Amidst uncertainty surrounding The Witcher season 4, the incorporation of dark themes in season 3 could potentially provide a grounding element for the series. The Witcher has always fearlessly introduced cruel characters, horrific monsters, and genuinely harrowing themes. One cannot forget the haunting tale of Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) in particular. Going back to its origins could offer the opportunity for Hemsworth to join the show with a captivating story arc from the very beginning, allowing him to seamlessly integrate himself into the series. The return to its chaotic and dark roots signifies a promising future for The Witcher, irrespective of the prevailing uncertainty.
