The Witcher season 3 will feature a mix of new and returning cast members as it brings the world of Andrzej Sapkowski's books and short stories to life. The TV series follows Geralt, a mutated monster hunter who is hired to protect his adopted child, Ciri, from those who seek her untapped supernatural powers. While season 1 focused on the short stories and season 2 delved into the novels, particularly Blood of Elves, season 3 will explore the plot of the book The Time of Contempt, according to showrunner Lauren Hissrich in an interview with TechRadar.
Netflix has announced a split release date for The Witcher season 3, with five episodes premiering on June 29, 2023, followed by three more episodes on July 27, 2023. This upcoming season will see a shift in cast and characters as Geralt, Ciri, and their companions leave Geralt's home, Kaer Mohren, in an attempt to protect Ciri from those who are after her. Along the way, they will reunite with familiar faces from previous seasons, while also introducing new characters from the books that have yet to be explored in the Netflix adaptation.
Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia
Henry Cavill portrays Geralt of Rivia, the central character in The Witcher series. Geralt, renowned as a witcher, takes on contracts to hunt and eliminate monsters, while also making it his mission to safeguard his adopted daughter, Ciri. Alongside his true love, Yennefer, the trio forms a formidable and close-knit family unit. Prior to his portrayal of Geralt, Cavill gained prominence for his role as Charles Brandon in the television series The Tudors. Freya Allan has once again joined the cast of The Witcher season 3, reprising her role as Princess Ciri. She has also portrayed Kail in the horror-drama TV show The Third Day, Mary in The War of the Worlds, and Young Minerva in Into the Badlands. Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengeberg
Anya Chalotra's portrayal of the sorcerer Yennefer of Vengeberg in The Witcher showcases her talent as she takes on the role of a surrogate mother to Ciri and becomes the true love of Geralt.
