BlizzCon 2023 unveiled the 10th expansion of World of Warcraft called "The War Within." Set to launch in Fall 2024, the expansion offers exciting new gameplay elements. Players can anticipate recruiting the Earthen, a dwarf-like race, as an Allied Race and embarking on a journey to explore the underground depths of Azeroth. The expansion introduces new zones and Hero Talents for players to use.
Prior to BlizzCon, Blizzard President Mike Ybarra hinted at what players could expect from the event. With an emphasis on the Warcraft series, anticipation and speculation about the future of World of Warcraft began to build. As the current Dragonflight expansion nears its climax with the upcoming Guardians of the Dream content update, players' attention will soon shift to the Worldsoul Saga, the first of three new expansions coming to World of Warcraft.
The final announcement of the BlizzCon 2023 opening ceremony came from Chris Metzen, the executive creative director of the Warcraft franchise, unveiling the anticipated upcoming expansion. The cinematic trailer showcased Anduin and Thrall, while a separate gameplay trailer featured Alleria Windrunner, both of which were subsequently uploaded to the World of Warcraft YouTube channel. Contrary to initial leaks speculating about the continent of Avaloren, the trailer debunked these rumors and instead introduced new zones, such as the above-ground dwarven Isle of Dorn. As players progress, they will venture underground into the Nerubian citadel of Azj-Kahet and the enigmatic Ringing Deeps, which serve as home to some kobolds and Earthen. Additionally, a fleeting glimpse of the Arathi city of Hallowfall was presented, with an imposing, sun-like crystal looming overhead.

New Account-Wide Feature: Warbands (Shared reputations and features for all characters on a single Battle.net account)
New Mount Feature: Dynamic Flight (Dragonriding for pre-Dragonflight mounts)

At launch, players of World of Warcraft can look forward to eight new dungeons and one new raid. In terms of gameplay features, there will be the option to form account-wide Warbands, allowing for the sharing of resources and reputation across all characters. Additionally, the Earthen will be accessible to both Alliance and Horde players as an Allied Race. Excitingly, players will have the opportunity to partake in treasure Delves, while all classes and specializations can choose from a range of Hero talents to further personalize their builds. An example of this customization is the ability for a Balance Druid to become either a Keeper of the Grove or a Chosen of Elune. Lastly, some beloved older mounts such as Invincible and Ashes of Al'ar will be able to utilize Dynamic Riding, reminiscent of Dragonflight's popular Dragonriding feature.
Though Patch 10.2 is right around the corner for World of Warcraft, Blizzard has also assured players that there will be a future patch that connects the Dragonflight and The War Within storylines. It is still unknown what exactly Blizzard has in store during the gap between expansions.
