Article Overview
The Walking Dead chief content officer is open to bringing back the main series for a season 12 after the currently-airing spinoffs.
Gimple mentioned the potential for a crossover event involving all the new spinoffs.
While not specifically planned, Gimple expressed enthusiasm for a convergence of the shows narratively.
The Walking Dead's chief content officer, Scott Gimple, recently stated that season 12 of the popular zombie franchise is still being considered, even after the current spinoff series. After the main zombie show ended in 2022, several spinoffs were introduced, focusing on significant characters from the original show. Two of these spinoffs, Dead City featuring Maggie and Negan, and Daryl Dixon starring Daryl, are already in the midst of their multi-season runs.
During a panel at New York Comic Con, Gimple expressed his willingness to revive the main series once the spinoffs have concluded. He also discussed the potential for all the new spinoffs, including the upcoming show The Ones Who Live featuring Rick and Michonne, to come together for an exciting crossover event. Take a look at Gimple's remarks below:
There are no specific plans for a crossover, but it would be great to witness the convergence of these shows in some narrative capacity. As for The Walking Dead season 12, I have no objections to it.
Why The Walking Dead Season 12 Would Be The Perfect Ending For The Franchise
Gimple's comments suggest that although there isn't a planned grand finale for the franchise, there is still a possibility for one. This means that the events of Dead City's New York-based story and Daryl Dixon's journey in season 2 could have significant consequences for the entire franchise. The Ones Who Live, with its focus on the CRM, could further expand the series into a whole new world.
Despite being on separate journeys, the main characters in each spinoff still consider each other as family. Bringing them together in a revival of the original series would provide a satisfying conclusion to their adventures in different parts of the world. It could also serve as a way to create a memorable ending for the franchise, as it would feature beloved characters from different shows that audiences have grown to love over the years.
It remains uncertain how convergence will occur in the future, but Gimple holds an optimistic view regarding the possibility of The Walking Dead season 12. If it were to happen, numerous reunions could take place for characters from spinoffs and those who are not currently featured in the ongoing lineup. Aligning the spinoffs towards a common conclusive point would be the most logical approach for a grand finale of the franchise. Initially, before the inception of spinoffs, plans were in place for The Walking Dead seasons 12 to 15, wherein Daryl would depart the show while Maggie and Negan took on the roles of main characters.
