Skybound Games' The Walking Dead: Betrayal has recently announced the dates for its open beta. Initially revealed in July, The Walking Dead: Betrayal has drawn comparisons to the popular game Among Us, as it requires players to uncover the betrayer within their group.
The immensely popular television series The Walking Dead showcased numerous alliances that crumbled in the face of unexpected betrayals. Fans of Telltale's Walking Dead game series also had the chance to experience this, as their decisions had consequences on the game's narrative. The Walking Dead: Betrayal aims to elevate this concept further by immersing eight players, known as survivors, in an adventure where they must collaborate to find supplies and escape a horde of walkers. Simultaneously, they must also identify and eliminate the traitor responsible for undermining their plans.
The official release date for The Walking Dead: Betrayal has not been announced yet. However, Skybound Games has revealed that an open beta test will take place from August 25th at 9am PT to August 28th at 9am PT. Those interested in participating can sign up through The Walking Dead: Betrayal's Steam page or join the game's Discord channel for important updates from the developers. To familiarize players with the gameplay and map, Skybound Games has released a "How to Play" video.
Setting itself apart from other social deduction games, The Walking Dead: Betrayal introduces a range of unique weapons and skills for survivors and traitors to utilize in order to complete objectives. Developed by Other Ocean Interactive, it shares similarities with the popular social deduction game Project Winter.
The Walking Dead: Betrayal has the potential to rekindle interest in zombie games, particularly in a genre dominated by zombie shooters. Numerous players may find the co-op gameplay offered in this game refreshing compared to popular titles like Left 4 Dead and Back 4 Blood. It appears that leveraging the popularity of social deduction games would be a smart move, enabling fans of The Walking Dead to enjoy playing with their friends while facing off against both walkers and other survivors.
In addition to The Walking Dead: Betrayal, many fans have been eagerly anticipating the release of Skybound Games' Invincible Presents: Atom Eve. This visual novel will revolve around the superheroine and her group of friends. Ubisoft has also collaborated with Skybound to create a free-to-play mobile game called Invincible: Guarding the Globe. Skybound has proven its ability to produce video game titles that cater to a diverse range of fandoms, as seen with their RPG WrestleQuest, which focuses on professional wrestling.
The Walking Dead: Betrayal is in development for PC.
