Rex plays a vital role in Ahsoka Tano's character development, forming a friendship during The Clone Wars and fighting alongside her in major battles.

Although Rex's cameo in the Clone Wars era was a gratifying nod to fans, he truly deserved a substantial presence and meaningful interaction with Ahsoka to acknowledge her survival.

Captain Rex, the beloved clone trooper character from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, finally made his live-action debut in the Ahsoka series. However, fans felt that his role should have been more significant. Throughout The Clone Wars, Rex played a major part in various story arcs and underwent significant character development, making him one of the most well-developed characters on the show. Rex and Ahsoka also had notable roles in Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, further solidifying their friendship.

Ahsoka Tano, on the other hand, made her first appearance in live-action in The Mandalorian season 2 and later appeared in The Book of Boba Fett. Both of these appearances served as a precursor to her own standalone TV series, aptly named Ahsoka. In the Ahsoka series, Captain Rex finally made his much-anticipated live-action debut in episode 5 titled "Part Five: Shadow Warrior," portrayed by Temuera Morrison in flashback scenes set during the Clone Wars era. Fans were thrilled with Rex's surprise appearance, as it was a satisfying nod to the animated and live-action shows created by Dave Filoni. However, given Rex's significance to Filoni's storytelling, many fans felt that he deserved a larger role in the series.

initially encountered Ahsoka Tano in "The Clone Wars" movie of 2008. In the show's first season, these two characters swiftly formed a bond of friendship. During the course of season 5, when Ahsoka was wrongfully accused of orchestrating a bombing at the Jedi Temple, Rex stood by her as one of the few who remained steadfast in believing her innocence. They would later unite to fight alongside each other in the intense Siege of Mandalore. Nevertheless, their alliance faced a significant obstacle when Order 66 was initiated not long after the Republic emerged triumphant. Ahsoka skillfully intervened by removing the inhibitor chip implant from Rex, thereby enabling him to regain control over his own thoughts and actions. To ensure their safety and evade the clutches of the emerging Galactic Empire, the pair staged their demise and embarked on separate paths, opting to remain in hiding.

Ahsoka Gave Rex A Cameo - But He Deserved Far More

: Rex and Ahsoka were reunited in the second season of Rebels as they both became foundational members of the Rebel Alliance. In a tragic turn of events, Tano's presumed demise on Malachor left Rex devastated, resulting in their lack of on-screen interaction since then. Rex holds a significant place in Ahsoka's narrative as one of her closest companions, even beyond the Clone Wars era. Therefore, it was regrettable that Rex was absent from Ahsoka, except for his brief appearances in flashbacks.

A well-deserved and harmless fan service occurred when the Clone Wars-era Rex made a cameo appearance. However, it would have been more fitting for Rex to have a proper reunion with his friend and a more significant role. Adding Temuera Morrison as Rex to Ahsoka's main cast would not have overcrowded it, and it would have been beneficial for Rex to interact with Ahsoka and acknowledge her survival. Since Ahsoka's story is a continuation of The Clone Wars, it was disappointing to relegate such an essential character like Captain Rex to small cameos. If Ahsoka season 2 continues the story, it is hopeful that the beloved clone will have a much more prominent role.
