The Valley showcased post-production clips of Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright discussing their split and if there was a chance to get back together.

In the season 1 finale that premiered on Tuesday, June 4, Jax, 44, and Brittany, 35, were busy with launching Jax’s bar in Studio City while dealing with relationship troubles. The episode seemed to conclude on a hopeful tone as Jax pondered about the future with Brittany.

"This is such an incredible moment for me. I believe we defied the odds by opening a bar together as partners. This venture has really strengthened the bond between Brittany and me," he shared in a personal reflection. "Currently, the future is looking very promising."

On the other hand, the final episode, which was longer than usual, was only halfway through. The remaining scenes were recorded six months later. The Valley segment featured We's coverage of Jax and Brittany's split, as well as Michelle Lally and Jesse Lally's divorce, before providing updates on all the couples.

Jax expressed his surprise and apologized to the cameras before walking away, saying he never expected to be in his current situation.

Jax and Brittany first discussed their choice to temporarily halt their marriage, as revealed in February, during a filming session with their fellow cast members. Jax then spoke with Jason Caperna to delve into the reasons behind their unexpected decision.

Jax explained that there were no affairs, cheating, or abuse involved in the situation. He felt deeply hurt by the news and was triggered by it. He recalled feeling devastated and crying uncontrollably when Brittany expressed her desire to separate. Jax admitted that they were currently on a break and things were not looking positive for their relationship.

In a confessional, Brittany offered her side of the story about the “toxic” situation.

Jax and I have been going through a lot lately. Our issues started during the summer, but things escalated once the cameras started rolling. About six weeks ago, I decided to separate from Jax," she shared. "I ended up moving to an AirBnB with Cruz because Jax refused to leave. It just goes to show how selfish he can be."

Brittany opened up to Michelle, Janet Caperna, and Nia Booko about Jax's behavior being the final straw. She explained how he would often go out and come back "mean as a f—king snake" due to being hungover. After enduring hours of screaming from Jax during one incident, Brittany made the tough decision to temporarily part ways.

There have been many things that have made me question my relationship with Jax. I've experienced betrayal, disrespect, and humiliation. The pain I've endured has been very public, and it's become too much for me to handle.

Jax seemed to have lost hope for his relationship with Brittany. In a confessional, he admitted, "I believe I may have pushed her too far. Maybe I'm just not meant for this."

Brittany confessed that she was hesitant to follow in Michelle's footsteps by divorcing Jesse. She felt like she was close to making a decision but wasn't fully ready to end her marriage.

Through tears, she expressed her concern about disappointing her family. She had worked hard for them to accept Jesse, and she dreaded the thought of letting them down or causing them any pain.

In a flashback scene, Zack Wickham and Kristen Doute shared their thoughts on Jax's behavior before the separation. Zack witnessed intense fights between Jax and Brittany that reached a troubling level. Meanwhile, Kristen mentioned how Jax would call Brittany names like "fat and lazy."

Later on, Jax and Brittany came together in their home, where Jax is currently residing. Brittany didn't waste any time and asked Jax about the changes he was planning to make for their future together.

Jax mentioned that he took a big step by scheduling an appointment with a therapist. Brittany teased him by saying, "So you finally made an appointment. When? Yesterday? Right before the cameras come [back] up." Jax responded, "I made it yesterday because that was the right time for me to do it."

Despite Jax's efforts, Brittany wasn't convinced that he was truly committed to making a change.

Jax has been talking about going to therapy for years. The day before we resume filming, he suddenly schedules a doctor's appointment. However, one of the cast members reveals to the cameras that she believes it's all just for show. She thinks he wants everyone to think he's serious about changing, but she doubts he will actually follow through.

On the other hand, Jax tells producers that he did make an appointment but ended up not going. When asked if he changed his mind out of fear, he admits that was one reason, but also mentions that the location was too far for him to travel.

Jax expressed his desire to have Brittany back, despite her decision to leave him initially. Initially, it was difficult for him, but with time, he found it to be a positive experience.

Brittany was visibly frustrated with Jax for not putting in enough effort. She questioned why he had not made any changes and recounted hurtful things he had said to her in the past. Brittany also mentioned that Jax would often send her numerous angry messages once the cameras were turned off, urging him to be genuine.

Jax continued to deny making any rude comments towards Brittany and insisted that he did not give any interviews claiming they were still living together. However, Brittany had evidence to prove otherwise. She showed a video of Jax talking to reporters where he clearly stated that they were still residing in the same house.

Feeling frustrated, Brittany expressed how this situation made her appear dishonest. She questioned why anyone would lie for attention, pointing out that Jax was the one doing so. Despite the turmoil, Brittany emphasized her personal growth and financial independence. She stated that she has become more self-assured and empowered, recognizing her own value. Brittany acknowledged that she no longer wanted to be in a toxic relationship with someone who would deceive her and reflected on why she had stayed with him for so long.

The finale wrapped up with Jax and Brittany pondering their next steps. Jax's words seemed like a goodbye, as he expressed, "These nine years have been incredible. I have no regrets. I adore Brittany. She's my everything. Time will tell what the future holds."

Brittany also seemed resigned to the uncertainty ahead.

"I've been through a lot of challenges with Jax, but I wouldn't have my 3-year-old son, Cruz, if I had ended things with him earlier," she shared. "Now that I have Cruz and have gained clarity, I feel like it's best for both of us, for the sake of my mental well-being, to move on."

"The Valley has been confirmed for a second season, and you can watch all the episodes on Peacock."
