Chapter 236 reveals a pivotal moment where Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses, emerges victorious over Satoru Gojo, the most formidable Jujutsu Sorcerer of our time. With a history spanning thousands of years, Sukuna's unparalleled power is undeniable, considering his relentless battles against powerful curses and sorceresses throughout history.
However, Sukuna was well aware that sheer power alone would not suffice to overcome Satoru Gojo. He recognized that regardless of what he unleashed upon Satoru, the latter would swiftly recover within a matter of minutes, seemingly unaffected. Consequently, Sukuna embarked on formulating a cunning scheme that would enable him to breach Satoru's impenetrable defense. It was a stroke of brilliance that initially struck his mind in Chapter 117, upon witnessing the might of Megumi's Mahoraga.
Seeing Mahoraga In Action
The moment Sukuna caught sight of Satoru Gojo through the eyes of Yuji Itadori, he realized that he would inevitably clash with Gojo at some point, and that prospect spelled trouble for him. It wasn't that Gojo was inherently superior to Sukuna in terms of power, but rather that their confrontation would be an arduous battle with no definitive conclusion in sight. Consequently, Sukuna had been grappling with the absence of a concrete strategy to overcome Satoru. However, everything changed with the occurrence of the Shibuya incident.
At the end of the bloody battle, Sukuna took control of Yuji's body while Megumi, heavily injured from a previous intense fight, was left defenseless against a lurking enemy. Unable to fight, Megumi summoned the Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga, the most powerful shikigami that had never been controlled by any past users of the Ten Shadows Technique. Overwhelmed, Megumi lost consciousness.
With nothing else to occupy his time, Sukuna decided to challenge Mahoraga. It was during this confrontation that Sukuna discovered Mahoraga's unique ability. Mahoraga could adapt to any attack, identifying the most effective response and countering accordingly. As the battle progressed, Mahoraga became increasingly adept at analyzing and deflecting incoming attacks. The more blows he endured, the more refined and efficient his defensive maneuvers and counterstrikes became.
Sukuna's Malevolent Shrine, his domain expansion, eventually overwhelmed Mahoraga. In that moment, a plan started forming in Sukuna's mind. Witnessing Mahoraga's actions provided the elusive solution to the problem that had been troubling him. Normally, Sukuna would ruthlessly slay any living creature nearby, but this time, he made the decision to tend to Megumi's injuries. It became clear to Sukuna that in order to defeat Satoru Gojo, he needed Megumi by his side.
Taking Over Megumi's Body
During the early episodes of the first season, Sukuna and Yuji established a Binding Vow. This pact allowed Sukuna to restore his heart and essentially revive himself, while granting him the ability to possess Yuji's body for a complete minute whenever Sukuna uttered the word "Enchain". Surprisingly, Sukuna refrained from utilizing this extraordinary ability, even when Yuji's life hung in the balance. However, everything changed with the onset of the Culling Game.
During the Pseudo-Geto’s Culling Game, Satoru Gojo found himself trapped within an inescapable Prison Realm. However, as the deadly battle royale drew to a close, Yuji and his friends discovered a means to liberate Gojo from his confinement. Sensing Gojo's imminent release, Sukuna saw it as the opportune moment to reclaim his secret weapon, the Mahoraga. Catching the group off guard, Sukuna uttered the word "Enchain," promptly seizing control of Yuji's body.
Having usurped Yuji's body, Sukuna proceeded to sever one of Yuji's fingers, forcibly feeding it to Megumi before transferring his own soul into Megumi's body. In under a minute, Sukuna successfully commandeered Megumi's body, gaining access to his coveted Ten Shadows Technique, along with the formidable Mahoraga. However, merely taking over Megumi's physical form did not suffice. Sukuna had to obliterate Megumi's soul to ensure complete dominion over his new vessel, employing the cruelest method imaginable to achieve his goal.
When the Culling Game began, several souls of previous Jujutsu Sorcerers reincarnated into the present-day population. Among them was an influential sorcerer named Yorozu, who took over Megumi's sister, Tsumiki Fushiguro's body. Sukuna perceived this as an opportunity to not only familiarize himself with the Ten Shadow Technique but also to shatter Megumi's resolve. Thus, Sukuna exclusively engaged in combat with Yorozu, utilizing Megumi's Ten Shadow Technique, ultimately ending her life. This devastating event shattered Megumi's spirit and inner essence into fragments, granting Sukuna complete dominion over Megumi's physical form and supernatural powers.
Having Mahoraga Fight Satoru Gojo
Equipped with a rejuvenated physique and an impressive newfound skill, Sukuna is now prepared to confront Satoru Gojo. The clash between the most formidable being in history and the mightiest individual of modern times has officially commenced. As anticipated, the encounter between these two titans resembles a cataclysmic force of nature. The earth shatters and structures crumble as they unleash incomprehensibly potent assaults upon one another. Amidst this awe-inspiring skirmish, both Gojo and Sukuna meticulously assess each other's every move, searching for the tiniest vulnerability to capitalize on.
And then Sukuna summons Mahoraga, a being that Gojo has never encountered before, leaving him unaware of its unique adaptability. Ignorant of the fact that the more he attacks Mahoraga, the stronger and more effective its counterattacks become, Gojo unleashes a barrage of various attacks and employs numerous tricks and strategies. Essentially, Sukuna uses Mahoraga as a means to analyze Gojo's abilities. Eventually, Gojo appears to triumph over Sukuna and Mahoraga, only to be caught off guard as they unleash a devastating slash that tears through the fabric of space. In an instant, Satoru Gojo's life is extinguished.
Sukuna's overwhelming power alone is not the sole reason behind his victory over Satoru Gojo. Ultimately, it can be attributed to his vast amount of experience accumulated over thousands of years and his insatiable thirst for power. As an entity that has existed for millennia, Sukuna's battle expertise far surpasses that of Gojo. Consequently, his instinctive combat sense and ability to devise winning strategies are unparalleled.
Additionally, Gojo continuously strives to optimize his distinct skill, whereas Sukuna actively seeks out means to enhance his power and gain an advantage over his adversaries. This is why Sukuna promptly acknowledges the significance of Mahoraga in his imminent confrontation with Gojo. Hence, regardless of the difficulty in accepting it, Satoru Gojo is simply incapable of surpassing Ryomen Sukuna. Stream Jujutsu Kaisen on Crunchyroll.
