Leah Remini and Jennifer Lopez's friendship has been a topic of curiosity among fans for quite some time. Fortunately, Michelle Visage seems to have the answers. The 55-year-old RuPaul's Drag Race judge recently spoke about her own friendship with Remini, 53, during an episode of Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang's "Las Culturistas" podcast on Wednesday, September 27. As Rogers, 33, expressed his adoration for Remini and her collaboration with Lopez in the movie "Second Act" in 2018, Yang, 32, posed the question, "Are Leah and J. Lo best friends, right?"
Rogers carried on discussing the film when Visage responded with a simple "no comment." Meanwhile, Yang erupted into laughter. Remini and Lopez, both aged 54, crossed paths in 2004 at a red carpet occasion. Lopez poured her heart out to Entertainment Tonight in 2018, expressing, "It was one of those instances of instant chemistry, where you just have this feeling of, 'I adore this individual. I love being in their company. This person brings laughter into my life.'" She further added, "She's awesome, and our upbringings have a remarkable resemblance. That's why our collaboration thrives."
Speculation has arisen recently about the potential rift between the duo. During Lopez's remarriage to Ben Affleck in August 2022, Remini was noticeably absent as she accompanied her daughter, Sofia, to college. Remini, who married Angelo Pagán in 2003, shares Sofia, aged 19, with him.
Furthermore, Remini caused further speculation when she attended Marc Anthony's wedding to Nadia Ferreira in January. Anthony, aged 55, was previously married to Lopez from 2004 to 2014, and they have twins, Max and Emme, aged 15, together.
Lopez and Remini have not provided any comments on their current situation. However, Remini has expressed her reluctance in discussing Lopez due to the perception of it being for gossip purposes. In a February 2021 interview on the Today show, she stated, "Not because I don’t love talking about my friend, but I feel a lot of times it’s for gossip purposes. Especially if I am trying to talk about something that is important, like our podcast, or exposing the abuses that we’re talking about in Scientology and the victims of Scientology and somebody asks me about Jennifer’s wedding. I just find it utterly annoying."
On the other hand, Visage and Remini have been friends for many years. Prior to Remini's departure from Scientology in 2013, she introduced Visage to the religion. However, during an interview on "Las Culturistas," Visage revealed that she left the church after gaining a deeper understanding of their beliefs.
“It was time to make a commitment or get out,” Visage said. “I was like, ‘Something doesn’t feel right.’”

After departing from the organization, representatives allegedly persistently contacted her for an extended period of time. This did not come as a surprise to Remini, as she is known for openly criticizing the church. Visage, reflecting on the situation, expressed admiration for Remini's memoir and docuseries, both of which center around Scientology. Interestingly enough, Remini is simply expressing her own truth and allowing others to do the same. In essence, she is sincerely trying to assist, which is ironically the purpose of Scientology.
Despite Remini's claims against Scientology, the church has consistently refuted them. In August, after Remini filed a lawsuit against the organization, she was labeled an "anti–free speech bigot" by the church. In response to her actions, the church issued a statement declaring that they are not intimidated by her harassment and manipulation aimed at obstructing truthful freedom of speech. Additionally, the church suggested that if Remini does not believe in free speech, she should consider relocating to Russia.
