Numerous individuals are suspected to have been seized in Israel by Hamas militants during the weekend. Presently, they are being detained in various locations throughout Gaza, further complicating Israel's response to the militant organization's lethal assault on Saturday.

Israel is making meticulous efforts to ascertain the precise number of individuals who have been taken hostage and brought into Gaza. This isolated coastal enclave, with a population of nearly 2 million people residing in just 140 square miles, ranks among the most densely populated areas globally.

Lt. Col. Richard Hecht, the international spokesperson for the military, informed CNN on Sunday that a considerable number of individuals had been apprehended, highlighting the complexities of the ongoing situation as the army initiated airstrikes on Gaza in retaliation. During a previous briefing, he mentioned that among those being held captive were civilians, including children and elderly individuals.

In addition to Israeli captives, it is believed that individuals of various nationalities have also been taken hostage. According to Alicia Barcena, the Foreign Minister of Mexico, two Mexican nationals, a man and a woman, have been presumed to be held captive by Hamas. Additionally, Brazilian authorities have reported that at least three Brazilian nationals are currently missing.

The armed wing of Hamas, known as the Al Qassam Brigades, has issued a warning regarding the potential threat to hostages as a result of Israeli attacks in the area. Abu Obaida, the spokesperson for the Al Qassam Brigades, emphasized their presence throughout the Gaza Strip in a recorded audio message on Saturday.

According to IDF spokesperson Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus, the number of Israeli nationals currently being held by a terrorist organization is unprecedented in Israeli history. During an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, he stressed the gravity of the situation.

More than 17 years have passed since an Israeli soldier was captured as a prisoner of war during an attack on Israeli territory. Since the town-to-town combat in the 1948 war of independence, Israel has not experienced such an infiltration of military bases, towns, and kibbutzim. Here is the information we have about a few of the hostages seized by Hamas.

Details of hostages from the attack are beginning to emerge as family members recognize relatives in the clips circulating online.

An Israeli woman named Noa Argamani and her boyfriend, Avinatan Or, were captured in a viral video being kidnapped. The footage shows Argamani being lifted onto a motorcycle and taken away, while Or is apprehended and forced to walk with his hands restrained behind his back. CNN cannot independently verify the authenticity of the video. "It's extremely distressing to witness someone you are close to, someone you know so well, being subjected to such treatment," stated Amir Moadi, a roommate of Noa Argamani. He added that he was aware of around five or six individuals who attended the festival and have been reported missing since then.

Handout

In another video authenticated by CNN, an unconscious woman who was at the festival could be seen being displayed by armed militants in Gaza as onlookers shouted "Allahu Akbar."

CNN later confirmed the identity of the woman as German-Israeli national Shani Louk.

Her cousin confirmed to the Washington Post that Louk attended the music festival.

CNN does not have information regarding Louks' location or well-being presently. The graphic and distressing nature of the video prevents CNN from broadcasting it.

According to Louks' cousin, her identification was made based on her tattoos and distinctive long dreadlocks. The cousin expressed a glimmer of hope and attributed the responsibility for Louks and the other individuals to Hamas.

Israeli border communities

According to IDF spokesman Brig. Gen. Daniel Hagari, Hamas fighters have initiated a hostage situation in the border community of Beeri and the town of Ofakim, located approximately 20 miles east of Gaza. He mentioned that these two areas are currently the central sites of the ongoing crisis.

During his televised speech, he mentioned the presence of elite commanders alongside special forces within the two communities, while also informing about ongoing battles taking place in 22 different areas.

A video, which CNN has identified as being located in Beeri, seemingly portrays Hamas militants capturing several Israeli individuals.

Residents in Beeri and Nir Oz, two communities located on Israel's border with Gaza, have informed Channel 12 television station that unidentified individuals were systematically attempting to gain unlawful entry into their homes.

Additionally, Channel 12 disclosed that some infiltrators had captured hostages in Netiv HaAsara; however, Israeli authorities have yet to verify the accuracy of these claims.

A mother from Israel recounted to CNN the harrowing experience of being on the phone with her 16-year-old and 12-year-old children who were home alone when they heard gunshots and attempted break-ins. The mother heard terrorists speaking in Arabic to her teenagers, with the youngest pleading that they were too young to go with them. The call abruptly ended, and she has not heard from them since. To ensure their safety, CNN has chosen not to disclose the identities of the mother and her children.

Yoni Asher, an Israeli father, expressed his suspicion that his wife and young daughters have been abducted during their visit to Nir Oz. He identified his wife in a viral video which depicts a group of individuals being forcefully loaded onto a truck while accompanied by Hamas militants, all amidst the echoing chants of "Allahu Akbar." Concerned about the well-being of his family, Yoni revealed that he traced his wife's phone only to discover that it was located in Gaza.

Soldiers

In another video, filmed in Gazas Shejaiya neighborhood, a woman without shoes is forcibly removed from the trunk of a Jeep by an armed individual and compelled into the rear seat of the vehicle. Her face is bleeding, and it is evident that her hands are bound with cable ties behind her back. Notably, the Jeep displays an IDF license plate, indicating the possibility that it may have been unlawfully acquired and brought into Gaza.

The al Qassam Brigades announced on Saturday that they have successfully captured a significant number of Israeli soldiers. Abu Obaida, the group's spokesperson, shared this news on Telegram, delivering a message of hope to Palestinian prisoners and the community. He stated that the captured officers and soldiers are being kept in secure locations, including resistance tunnels.

A CNN-authenticated video, geolocated, reveals the capture of at least one Israeli soldier. The footage, shared on Hamas' official social media platforms, depicts militants forcefully removing two soldiers, visibly terrified and shocked, from a disabled tank. The method by which the tank was disabled remains ambiguous in the video, although Hamas has previously employed drones to deploy bombs targeting Israeli tanks.

A video snippet captures a soldier being kicked by militants, followed by another clip of the soldier lying motionless on the ground. Hamas militants are seen leading away a second soldier, while a third soldier with a heavily bloodied face remains motionless near the tank track. CNN is unable to provide information on the current whereabouts or status of the three soldiers.

In the subsequent video, multiple armed individuals can be observed surrounding the tank, whereas the three soldiers are conspicuously absent.

Subsequently, the armed men proceed to forcefully extract a fourth Israeli soldier from the tank. The soldier remains immobile as he is dragged along the tank's exterior and lowered onto the ground. The armed men proceed to trample upon his body.
