Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Ahsoka episode 3. In the episode, the droid professor Huyang playfully comments on Ahsoka Tano's non-traditional Jedi lineage and how Sabine Wren fits into it. As someone who has served the Jedi Order for a long time, it's understandable that Huyang finds Ahsoka's departure from the Order before Order 66 to be unusual. Despite his programming limitations, he assists in Sabine's training, even though he doesn't fully understand why Ahsoka sees potential in her. Huyang's knowledge of Jedi lineages is unparalleled, and his honesty about the unconventional path that led to Sabine's training is spot-on.
According to Huyang, Sabine Wren has the weakest Force-sensitivity he's ever seen in a potential Jedi. He emphasizes to Ahsoka that the Jedi Order would never have accepted someone like Sabine as a Padawan. Ahsoka counters by pointing out that the Jedi Order ultimately failed. The fact that Ahsoka is training Sabine in an unconventional manner reflects her fear of repeating the mistakes of the past. However, the realization that the Jedi Order had its flaws is not unique to Ahsoka. In fact, Ahsoka's decision to train Sabine is the culmination of all the unorthodox Jedi who came before her.

7 Yoda
The journey begins with the iconic Yoda, who shouldered the responsibility of attaining the esteemed position of Grand Master within the Jedi Order. While Yoda derived numerous teachings from the ancient Jedi manuscripts, he also contributed his own profound wisdom and innovative ideas. Despite his diminutive stature, Yoda defied expectations and showcased his exceptional skills as an unparalleled lightsaber duelist.
6 Count Dooku
-Huyang oversaw Yoda's training hundreds of years before the Skywalker saga. He was aware of the rarity of Yoda's species among the Jedi and how Yoda's unconventional methods of training younglings always managed to effectively convey his message. Yoda stood out among the Jedi Order, and even though he was no longer present during Ahsoka's time, his teachings continued to influence both Ahsoka and Luke.
Count Dooku possessed a unique distinction as an apprentice chosen by Grand Master Yoda, a highly unusual occurrence for Grand Masters. Dooku, typically regarded as a dutiful adherent to Jedi principles, occasionally became overeager when faced with unmet expectations. While harboring a desire for a coveted place on the Jedi Council, all his endeavors were overshadowed by the appointment of Mace Windu to the position instead.
Dooku's perception of the Order's failure in fulfilling its duty to safeguard the galaxy was distinctive among the Jedi. Prior to the Clone Wars, he noticed these shortcomings, and his ambition, combined with his perceived grievances against the Order, ultimately led him astray. In a similar vein to Ahsoka, Dooku was among the rare few who opted to depart from the Order after their attempts at reform proved futile.
5 Qui-Gon Jinn
While Dooku would often adhere to the guidelines established by the Jedi Council, Qui-Gon Jinn, on the other hand, was an outspoken independent thinker who was unafraid to challenge the rules and explore unconventional strategies. Qui-Gon recognized the same imperfections in the Jedi Order as his master did, but he chose a different path to address them. Instead of abandoning the Order like Dooku, Qui-Gon remained committed to persuading them about their missteps.
In certain aspects, Qui-Gon displayed a forward-thinking approach. Unlike most Jedi who simply ignored the Prophecy of the Chosen One, Qui-Gon extensively researched it well before encountering Anakin Skywalker. Even though the Jedi Council disapproved of Qui-Gon's unorthodox beliefs and fixations, he ultimately persuaded them to permit the training of Anakin Skywalker as a Jedi.
4 Obi-Wan Kenobi
Among the Jedi who influenced Sabine, Obi-Wan Kenobi stands out as the epitome of normality. Many regarded Obi-Wan as a model Jedi, embodying the finest traits of his former mentors. Similar to Dooku, Obi-Wan adhered to the Jedi Council's guidelines and respected their desires. Yet, akin to Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan possessed the discernment to deviate from or defy regulations when it meant rescuing others.
Obi-Wan was ready to instruct Anakin despite potential opposition from the Jedi Council. It was uncommon for Jedi Knights to acquire a Padawan apprentice right after their promotion. However, Obi-Wan decided to bypass the phase where he was expected to complete solo Jedi missions in order to enhance his expertise.
3 Anakin Skywalker
From the outset, Anakin Skywalker stood out as an unconventional Jedi, embarking on his training at a remarkably advanced age. The Jedi Order typically favored selecting infants who had not yet established emotional ties to their families, whereas Anakin already possessed a deep bond with his mother prior to his initiation as a Jedi. Regrettably, this connection ultimately proved to be his downfall, triggering a complex within him that rendered him incapable of severing ties with those he held dear.
2 Ahsoka Tano
Similar to Dooku, Palpatine successfully manipulated Anakin, causing him to recognize the flaws within the Jedi Order. While a few Jedi had previously defected and opposed the Order, Anakin took it to a greater extent by attempting to personally eradicate the Jedi, once and for all. As a consequence of the Jedi Order's downward spiral since Dooku's era, Anakin emerged as the culmination of their failures.
Prior to her departure from the Jedi Order, Ahsoka served as Anakin's Padawan. Although she initially adhered strictly to the rules, she eventually embraced Anakin's unorthodox methods in undertaking missions and engaging in battles. The trials she faced throughout the Clone Wars molded her into a remarkable combatant, pilot, and leader. However, she ultimately made the decision to forsake her Jedi affiliation.
Unlike Dooku, who only imagined being slighted by the Council, Ahsoka was unfairly made a scapegoat by the Council in season 5 of The Clone Wars. They falsely accused her of murder, despite most of them knowing the truth, in order to maintain their tenuous relationship with the Galactic Senate and the Chancellor. The same flaws within the Jedi Order that Dooku had witnessed decades before ultimately drove Ahsoka to make the justified decision to leave the Jedi.
1 Sabine Wren
Ahsoka is now determined to train Sabine Wren as a Jedi, despite being aware of Sabine's limited abilities with the Force. One possible reason for this choice is that Ahsoka believes that many Jedi before her were led to the dark side due to their strong connection to the Force. Therefore, she sees Sabine's lack of connection as a hidden advantage. Another possibility is that Ahsoka wants to disprove Huyang and the Order by demonstrating that individuals without the Force can still be deserving of the Jedi title.
Sabine, a unique Jedi, is the result of the influence of multiple unconventional Jedi who aimed to bring positive change to the Order. Although Ahsoka's intentions for training Sabine may not be fully clear, it is evident that she believes in Sabine and wants her to have faith in herself. Ahsoka expresses to Huyang that Sabine doesn't need to become a Jedi, but rather, she needs to embrace her true self. As one of the most unconventional Jedi to receive training, it will be fascinating to see how Dave Filoni proceeds with Sabine's character in Ahsoka.
