Highlights
The game Tears of the Kingdom boasts an extensive collection of more than 100 side quests. These quests can become increasingly challenging as a result of the game's non-linear structure, especially when players stumble upon significant locations before even initiating the corresponding quests.
In the "Gerudo's Colossal Fossil" quest, players have the opportunity to encounter the Gerudo Great Skeleton in a cave prior to commencing the quest. Completing Loone's fossil quest can prove to be challenging, but it comes highly recommended due to its rewards, which include 150 Rupees and the ability to discover treasure chests containing pieces of the coveted "Armor of the Wild" set. Additionally, players can acquire Bubbul Gems from Bubbulfrogs for even more rewards.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom offers players more than 100 side quests to enjoy while exploring Hyrule. Many of these quests are straightforward, requiring Link to defeat specific monsters or capture beautiful scenery in photographs. However, the game's non-linear nature can unintentionally make some quests more challenging than intended. This is particularly evident in the quest called "Gerudo's Colossal Fossil."
The Great Skeletons are remnants of ancient leviathans that can be found in three locations across Hyrule: Eldin, Hebra, and the Gerudo Desert. In Breath of the Wild, one quest required Link to take photographs of these three skeletons. In Tears of the Kingdom, the character Loone has become fascinated with these mighty creatures and wants to explore them alongside Link. However, due to the game's new cave system, players may stumble upon the Gerudo Great Skeleton and uncover its secrets long before even triggering Loone's quest.
The Gerudo Great Skeleton Now Hides In A Cave
The Gerudo Great Skeleton in Breath of the Wild was hidden in the desert, making it a difficult find for players. However, it was visible on the game's map, allowing players to travel directly to it. In Tears of the Kingdom, changes in the environment, possibly caused by the Upheaval event or the shifting sands, have caused the fossil to be covered by a cave southwest of the Lightning Temple. This cave is a location that players must visit as part of the main plot, and those searching for Bubbulfrogs and Bubbul Gems may also come across the skeleton.
Upon entering the cave, players will encounter a rock wall that can be destroyed using Bomb Flowers, hammer-type weapons, or the Fire Sage Yunobo's ability. Many players instinctively destroy the wall in hopes of finding valuable treasures. However, inside the rock wall, they will only discover a smaller leviathan skeleton. This enigmatic object serves a purpose that remains unclear to players who have not embarked on the "Gerudo's Colossal Fossil" quest, leaving them puzzled.
Loone's Fossil Quest Has Three Parts
Loone, an enthusiastic explorer of fossils, cannot be found near any of the three skeletons in Tears of the Kingdom. Instead, she can be located at East Akkala Stable. It is important for players to diligently speak to all NPCs at each stable to avoid missing her. Loone tasks players with embarking on a journey to the Eldin Great Skeleton, where Link must locate its missing eye. Next, the broken bone pieces at the Hebra Great Skeleton must be repaired. Finally, the Gerudo Skeleton is the last one to be visited. Only after assembling the miniature skeleton and presenting it to Loone can players complete the quest.
Despite its challenging nature, it is highly recommended for players to undertake this quest. Loone will generously reward Link with a total of 150 Rupees, a valuable asset in a game where money can be scarce. Furthermore, being acquainted with the locations of the Great Skeletons can assist players in uncovering another set of treasure. Each fossil corresponds to a Dark Skeleton located directly beneath it in the Depths. These skeletons house treasure chests containing three pieces of the "Armor of the Wild" set, inspired by Breath of the Wild. Locating the skeletons in the Depths can be difficult, so it is advisable for players to first focus on the ones on the surface. Lastly, both the Gerudo and Hebra skeletons are found in caves, allowing players to acquire two Bubbul Gems from Bubbulfrogs. These gems can then be exchanged with the trader Koltin for additional rewards.
