In Starfield, players have the opportunity to create their own characters, just like in other modern role-playing games. This occurs during the tutorial section on Vectera, where players must not only decide on their character's appearance but also choose their Traits and Background. The Background determines the skills the character begins the game with.
As this process takes place early on, some players may hastily rush through it to begin exploring the universe as quickly as possible. Fortunately, Starfield offers the option to change the character's appearance at any time. However, there is a cost of a few hundred Credits for each customization.
How to Change Appearance in Starfield
To modify the appearance of the playable character, players can simply visit a place known as Enhance, which consists of multiple branches spread across Starfield's various moons and planets. These branches can be found in nearly every major city or settlement, including Neon, Akila City, and the Commercial District of New Atlantis, among others. To begin the process, players should approach the staff at one of these locations and agree to pay a fee of 500 Credits.
What Can be Changed at Enhance?
While visiting an Enhance location, players will not have access to the Traits or Backgrounds menu. Apart from that restriction, they will have the freedom to modify everything they were able to in the tutorial. This includes altering the appearance of their playable character, choosing their biological gender, and modifying their name and pronouns. Once the desired adjustments have been made, players can save and confirm them to ensure they take effect within the game.
Things to Consider About Character Customization in Starfield
When visiting Enhance, it's important to note that the playable character will appear in their in-game outfit on the character customization screen. In most cases, this isn't an issue, but if the character is wearing something like a hazmat suit that covers their face, players won't be able to see any changes they make. Additionally, if players choose not to save changes, the character's appearance will revert back to its original state, but any changes made to the character's name will remain in effect regardless of whether or not players save them.
Starfield is now available for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
