The world of One Piece is brimming with a plethora of organizations, groups, and pirate crews, with the Straw Hats being one among them. When it comes to lineage, the franchise primarily centres around tribes blessed with unique abilities, such as the recently introduced Buccaneers or the god-like Lunarians. Nevertheless, the series also showcases numerous households.
Though not all of these households are bound by blood in a literal sense, they possess considerable individual strength. Considering the collective might of their members, this discussion will rank the most formidable families in One Piece.
The Five Elders' and Imu-sama's dynasties will not be listed, as they have not been revealed yet.
Note: This article contains significant spoilers from One Piece manga up to chapter 1096.
The most powerful households in One Piece, ranked from weakest to strongest as of chapter 1096
15) Riku family
The Riku Family in One Piece (Image via Toei Animation, One Piece)
Centuries prior to the current events in One Piece, the Donquixote Family departed from Dressrosa and relocated to Mary Geoise. As a result, the Riku Family took over as the country's new rulers, leading with fairness and compassion.
In the Riku household, we have some impressive warriors. King Riku Doldo III stands out as a skilled swordsman with exceptional physical abilities. Rebecca, on the other hand, is an agile combatant who possesses the ability to utilize Observation Haki. Another noteworthy member is Viola, who possesses the Glare-Glare Fruit.
The most powerful member of the Riku Family, however, is Rebecca's father, Kyros. He is renowned as a legendary gladiator from the Corrida Colosseum, and despite losing his left leg, he remains a formidable fighter. Kyros effortlessly defeated Buffalo, a member of the Donquixote Pirates, and mercilessly thrashed Diamante, a high-ranking officer within the same crew.
14) Neptune family
The Neptune Family in One Piece (Image via Toei Animation, One Piece)
The Ryugu Kingdom is ruled by the Neptune Family, a royal lineage of fish-men. Known for their incredible strength, with the average fish-man being ten times more powerful than a human, these family members are revered as formidable warriors, especially when submerged underwater.
At the helm of the family is "Great Knight of the Sea" Neptune, the patriarch. However, his once formidable strength has waned with old age. Despite this, his sons Fukaboshi, Manboshi, and Ryuboshi possess superior fighting skills and were able to overpower the officers of the New Fish-Man Pirates, who had to rely on the Energy Steroids to gain an advantage.
Shirahoshi, the Mermaid Princess and Neptune's daughter, possesses the power of the Ancient Weapon Poseidon, enabling her to effortlessly control the Sea Kings. However, her lack of combat skills makes it difficult to determine her true fighting abilities, despite her immense potential.
13) Kurozumi family

Two decades prior to the current storyline of One Piece, the Kurozumi family formed an alliance with Kaido to support Orochi's ascension as shogun. Unfortunately, both Orochi and his loyal follower Kanjuro met their demise during the Onigashima Raid.
Despite possessing the abilities granted by a Mythical Zoan Fruit, Orochi proved to be a frail and fearful individual. The true powerhouse of the family was Kurozumi Kanjuro, who adeptly utilized his Brush-Brush Fruit to manipulate ink and bring to life various objects, creatures, and even human beings.
Several years ago, the Kurozumi household consisted of Semimaru and Higurashi, who possessed unique Devil Fruit abilities known as the Barrier-Barrier Fruit and the Clone-Clone Fruit, each of which presented its own set of challenges.
12) Chinjao family
Toei Animation's One Piece showcases the formidable Chinjao Family. This powerful clan commands the fearsome Happo Navy, which has recently united forces with the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. At the forefront of their ranks stands Don Chinjao, an unparalleled master of the devastating martial art known as Hasshoken. Additionally, Don Chinjao possesses remarkable prowess in Armament Haki, making him a force to be reckoned with.
Chinjao possesses the rare Color of Conqueror, although he could not elevate it to the formidable Advanced Conqueror's Haki. By combining Hasshoken and Armament Haki, Chinjao could unleash powerful strikes with his drill-shaped head. Although he was not a match for Garp, it is worth noting that even the strongest characters in One Piece would likely be defeated by the "Marine Hero".
11) Boa family
Chinjao's strength diminished as he grew older, and he was eventually surpassed by his grandson, Don Sai. Don Sai is skilled in using Armament Haki and is an expert in performing Hasshoken techniques. After marrying Don Sai, Baby 5, a former executive of the Donquixote Pirates and the possessor of the Arms-Arms Fruit, joined the Chinjao Family.
Toei Animation brings us the Gorgon Sisters in their iconic appearances from the popular anime One Piece. These powerful siblings, who were once enslaved by the Celestial Dragons, have risen to become skilled fighters. Among them, Boa Hancock shines as the empress of Amazon Lily and the leader of the formidable Kuja Pirates. With her exceptional abilities, she has earned the distinguished title of being the sole female member of the Seven Warlords.
Hancock possesses the rare ability to utilize all three forms of Haki in the world of One Piece. Complementing her martial arts proficiency, she harnesses the power of the Love-Love Fruit to transform living beings into stone statues. Utilizing this unique power, she effortlessly defeated Vasco Shot and Catarina Devon, both high-ranking members of the Blackbeard Pirates.
Despite her impressive abilities, Hancock has not displayed any exceptional feats related to Haki and proved to be no match for the formidable Marshall D. Teach, better known as "Blackbeard." Considering all factors, her overall combat skills seem to align with those of a fighter occupying the mid to high-tier position of a Yonko Commander.
Boa Sandersonia and Boa Marigold are significantly less powerful than Hancock, since they were on the verge of defeat in a 2v1 fight against a pre timeskip version of Luffy, despite their ability to utilize Haki and possess Zoan-enhanced physical abilities.
10) Donquixote family
The image above depicts Doflamingo's Family, which includes Mjosgard, Homing, and Rosinante. Despite the presence of a few genuinely kind-hearted Celestial Dragons, such as the aforementioned individuals, the majority of this family consists of malevolent individuals. This lineage can be traced back to the previous rulers of Dressrosa, ultimately leading to the infamous Donquixote Doflamingo.
Doflamingo, known for his agility and resilience, was skilled in using the String-String Fruit to manipulate razor-sharp strings with ease. As a formidable Commander-level fighter, he effortlessly defeated opponents such as Smoker, Sanji, and even Trafalgar Law. However, despite his prowess, Doflamingo met his match when Luffy unleashed his Gear 4, overpowering and ultimately defeating him.
Prior to his defeat, Doflamingo held a prominent position among the Seven Warlords. He had also established his own loyal crew, known as the Donquixote Pirates or the "Donquixote Family".
Doflamingo's top subordinates, Vergo and Pica, possessed the capability to envelop their entire bodies with Armament Haki.
Vergo boasted exceptional proficiency in Rokushiki techniques, whereas Pica, utilizing his Devil Fruit powers, could manipulate stone to form and command a colossal golem in the shape of a mountain. Despite their considerable might, Vergo and Pica proved to be outclassed by Law and Zoro. Opponents of lesser strength than these prominent members of the Worst Generation would have faced significant challenges when confronting either Vergo or Pica.
9) Vinsmoke family
The Vinsmokes (Image via Toei Animation, One Piece)
The Vinsmoke Family, rulers of the floating Germa Kingdom in the North Blue, command the notorious Germa 66 army and engage in mercenary activities. Led by their patriarch Judge, they utilize technology and science to augment their abilities.
Apart from being enhanced superhumans due to genetic manipulation, Reiju, Ichiji, Niji, and Yonji don specialized Raid Suits. These unique garments not only increase their durability, speed, and physical strength, but also bestow them with distinctive powers.
Also possessing an army of clone soldiers, the family recently formed an alliance with Caesar Clown, a scientist who possesses the Logia-class Gas-Gas Fruit. Despite his strong dislike for his relatives, the strongest member of the Vinsmoke family is Sanji, ranking as the third most powerful member of the Straw Hat crew, just after Luffy and Zoro.
Whether willingly or not, Sanji has unlocked the true potential of his genetic traits as a Vinsmoke, resulting in the development of Ifrit Jambe and an enhanced exoskeleton. With these upgrades, Sanji has surpassed his brothers and successfully defeated Queen, the third strongest member of the Beasts Pirates.
8) Kozuki family

Prior to being overthrown by Kurozumi Orochi's deceit and the formidable force of the Beasts Pirates, led by Kaido, the Kozuki Family had reigned over Wano for centuries. With the combined efforts of the Ninja-Mink-Pirate-Samurai Alliance, they eventually reclaimed control over the country.
Among the household's most formidable members was Oden, a man whose strength commanded reverence even from legends like Roger, Whitebeard, and Kaido. Possessing formidable Haki abilities, Oden wielded his two swords, Enma and Ame no Habakiri, to unleash devastating power.
Having sailed with both the Whitebeard Pirates and the Roger Pirates, Oden bravely faced off against Kaido, the Yonko renowned as the "World's Strongest Creature," and he even succeeded in inflicting significant injuries upon him. Unfortunately, unjust interference led to Oden's defeat, but his extraordinary strength left a lasting impression on Kaido, who continued to praise him for years.
Within the Kozuki Family, there are the Red Scabbards, Oden's loyal retainers, who deserve special recognition for their remarkable prowess in combat. Notably, Denjiro, Inuarashi, and Nekomamushi stand out as formidable fighters.
Oden's son, Momonosuke, not only inherited his father's potential, but also consumed an artificial replica of Kaido's Mythical Zoan Fruit. This unique fruit enables him to undergo a dragon-like transformation, possessing identical characteristics to those of the Yonko's.
7) Charlotte family
Big Mom, also known as Charlotte Linlin, is a prominent character in the popular anime series One Piece. Renowned for her unparalleled strength and rugged physique, she has been regarded as a true anomaly since her early years. Big Mom's progeny possess unique abilities, each wielding different powers granted by Devil Fruits. Among the crew, Linlin's eldest son, Charlotte Perospero, as well as the esteemed trio known as the Sweet Commanders - Charlotte Katakuri, Charlotte Cracker, and Charlotte Smoothie - hold prominent positions.
Charlotte Katakuri stands out among Linlin's offspring and subordinates, thanks to his exceptional mastery of Observation Haki. Having evolved it into the extraordinary skill of Future Sight, Katakuri's prowess is further amplified by the Awakening of the Mochi-Mochi Fruit. Notably, he shares with his mother the exceedingly rare gift of Conqueror's Haki.
Linlin utilized the power of the Soul-Soul Fruit to breathe life into inanimate objects, creating Homies, loyal creatures that served her. Big Mom, a prominent member of the esteemed Four Emperors, displayed remarkable strength by withstanding the combined assault of Kid and Law, despite facing them in a disadvantageous 2v1 situation. Her defeat only came when she faced an onslaught of bombs during her descent into the abyss.
6) Figarland family

Hailing from the Celestial Dragon lineage, Saint Figarland Garling reigns as the esteemed commander of the Holy Knights, a select group of elite warriors dispatched by the World Government to quell rebellious kingdoms. Notably, the Holy Knights possess the authority to govern their fellow Celestial Dragons.
Garling, bearing a strikingly similar saber to Shanks' legendary Gryphon, is hinted to be an exceptionally skilled swordsman. Recent chapters of One Piece suggest that Garling has demonstrated his formidable strength during the monumental God Valley Incident.
It is implied by One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda that Shanks was born into the Figarland household, suggesting a familial connection between the "Red Hair" and a notorious member of the World Government. With a striking resemblance between a young Saint Garling and Shanks, this connection becomes even more probable.
Shanks possesses mastery over Haki and swordsmanship, enabling him to not only nullify others' Observation Haki but also outmaneuver them with his exceptional speed and Future Sight ability.
He beat Eustass Kid with a single blow, and could challenge Dracule Mihawk, the World's Strongest Swordsman. Even Ryokugyu, a Navy Admiral, was intimidated by Shanks' prowess.
5) Gol family
Gol D. Roger's bloodline, depicted in an image via Toei Animation in the One Piece series, embarked on an extraordinary journey alongside his crew. They explored the vast expanse of the Grand Line, eventually arriving at Laugh Tale. It was at this fabled location that Roger discovered the coveted One Piece treasure and gained profound insight into the world's hidden truths. Undeniably unmatched in his achievements, Roger rightfully earned the esteemed title of the Pirate King, solidifying his legendary status.
By channeling his Advanced Conqueror's Haki through Ace, one of the Supreme Grade Blades, Roger successfully defended against all his adversaries, including Whitebeard, the strongest man in the world, and Garp, the esteemed Marine Hero. This showcased Roger's exceptional skill, as he could effortlessly overpower even a swordsman as formidable as Kozuki Oden.
Undoubtedly one of the greatest Haki users in history, Roger passed away without ever being defeated. His partner, Portgas D. Rouge, demonstrated remarkable determination by delaying her childbirth for twenty months, resulting in the birth of their son, Portgas D. Ace. However, this extreme exhaustion cost Rouge her life.
Ace, inheriting his father's bloodline traits along with ownership of the powerful Flame-Flame Fruit, was destined to become an exceptionally formidable pirate. Despite his youth, he displayed remarkable talent as one of the esteemed Yonko Commanders. Tragically, his life was cut short as he valiantly sacrificed himself defending his adopted brother, Luffy.
4) Whitebeard's "Family"

Edward Newgate, also known as "Whitebeard", did not seek glory or wealth despite his great power. His ultimate desire was to have a family. After leaving the Rocks Pirates, Newgate formed his own crew, the Whitebeard Pirates, by bringing together individuals from all walks of life.
Newgate cherished his subordinates and viewed them as his own children. Similarly, they felt a deep connection to him and considered him their father figure. This familial bond transformed the Whitebeard Pirates into a formidable group. Not only was Newgate one of the Four Emperors, but he possessed the strength to rival even Roger. The Whitebeard Pirates stood as one of the most powerful crews in existence.
Whitebeard possessed the extraordinary skills of both the Advanced Conqueror's Haki and the devastating abilities granted by the Tremor-Tremor Fruit. Marco, who commanded the Mythical Zoan power of the Phoenix, served as his loyal right-hand man. Other prominent members of the crew included Ace, Jozu, Teach, Vista, and Thatch. Remarkably, the legendary Kozuki Oden even joined the ranks of the Whitebeard Pirates at one point.
Regrettably, the combined effects of old age and a severe illness took a toll on Newgate. Tragically, both he and Ace met their untimely demise at Marineford, where the Navy successfully overpowered and defeated the once-mighty Whitebeard Pirates.
Marco tried to guide the remnaints of the crew into taking revenge against Teach, who stole Newgate and Thatch's Devil Fruits, but they lost the battle, and disbanded.
3) Shimotsuki family
The Shimotsuki Family, pictured above (Image via Shueisha/Colored by JLjarx), is a household originating from the Wano Country. Notably, one of its members is Roronoa Zoro, who is destined to become the strongest swordsman of all time. Zoro's ancestor, Ryuma, is also a revered samurai known as the "Sword God".
Ryuma, known as Wano's Greatest Hero, outshines Oden himself. With his remarkable mastery of the sword Shusui, which he transformed into a Black Blade, Ryuma fearlessly defended Wano from both pirates and the oppressive Celestial Dragons.
His extraordinary skills earned him the distinguished title of "King" and positioned him as the unrivaled champion, drawing direct comparisons to the famed Joy Boy.
Centuries later, Zoro, an exceptionally skilled warrior, emerges as the second most formidable member of the Straw Hat Pirates, right after Luffy. He is destined to carry on Ryuma's prestigious heritage. From the very start, Luffy and Zoro have shared a captain and first mate bond that mirrors the legendary duo of Gol D. Roger and Silvers Rayleigh.
Zoro, now an exceptional swordsman with extraordinary Haki and physical strength, is steadily nearing the necessary skill level to challenge Dracule Mihawk. Following his impressive battle against Kaido, Zoro's abilities have further evolved, as he now possesses the formidable Advanced Conqueror's Haki. This newfound power greatly enhances his potential for lethal combat.
2) Monkey family

The Monkey Family members charted unique paths, each embodying exuberance and a free-spirited nature, ultimately gaining notoriety. Luffy stands as the protagonist of the franchise, Dragon leads the Revolutionary Army, and Garp is hailed as the greatest Marine in history.
In terms of both influence and strength, these three individuals are truly remarkable. Garp, even at almost 80 years old, remains formidable enough to overpower a former Marine Admiral, a testament to his power and skill in his prime when he could go head-to-head with Gol D. Roger.
Luffy has recently incorporated Gear 5 into his arsenal, alongside his advanced mastery of all three types of Haki. This new transformation enables him to engage in battle using his imagination, much akin to the legendary "Sun God" Nika. With these formidable powers at his disposal, Luffy achieved the remarkable feat of defeating Kaido, thereby establishing himself as an Emperor of the seas.
Throughout his journey, Garp has managed to corner the former Pirate King on multiple occasions. Now, it is Luffy's destiny to surpass his grandfather and ascend to the rank of the new Pirate King, following in the footsteps of the legendary Joy Boy.
Dragon's fighting abilities are unknown, but, as Garp's son and Luffy's father, the "World's Worst Criminal" is bound to be among One Piece's strongest characters.
1) Family of D.
The Family of D. is absolutely extraordinary (Image via Toei Animation, One Piece).
Not all individuals bearing the initial D. share a bloodline, yet they are all intertwined by destiny, solidifying their membership in the powerful "Family of D.", the archenemies of the Celestial Dragons. Each of the carriers with the initial D. becomes entangled in significant events for various compelling reasons.
Charismatic individuals with immense self-confidence and unwavering faith in their own destiny, these individuals possess a profound yearning for freedom and a natural ability to effortlessly draw others towards them. Moreover, D. possessors have exhibited remarkable resilience in enduring extreme levels of physical and mental hardship.
Except for Marshall D. Teach, the owners of the D. do not fear death; instead, they embrace it selflessly, with open smiles and laughter, sometimes even right before their demise. It is as if they believe death is their only inevitable fate.
Among the most powerful characters in One Piece history, including Luffy, Teach, Xebec, Roger, Garp, and Dragon, are members of the metaphorical D. Family. No other lineage in the franchise boasts such an abundance of top-tier fighters, solidifying the D. Family as the strongest family in the One Piece series.
