The enchanting MMO Palia, currently in Open Beta, provides players with a selection of 8 distinct skills, each with an associated level that can be increased through the completion of tasks and activities. Out of these skills, 6 necessitate the use of specific tools to carry out corresponding activities: Fishing, Gardening, Mining, Hunting, Bug Catching, and Foraging.

The remaining two skills, Furniture Making and Cooking, do not directy require handheld tools. Instead, players rely on workstations they craft themselves. However, crafting these workstations does require materials that can be gathered with tools. Therefore, it is advisable for players to upgrade their tools as soon as possible in order to enhance their performance in each skill and, in certain instances, gain access to superior materials.

To use tools in Palia, simply press R and choose the desired tool from the tool wheel. Players can customize the arrangement of tools on the wheel by clicking and dragging a tool to replace it with another. In addition, each tool can be assigned a unique keybind in the game's Settings > Control Settings > Keybinding menu.

How to Repair Tools & Equipment in Palia

Tools in the game do not occupy any inventory space, allowing the player to have constant access to all their tools. Should the need arise, any tool can be easily unequipped by pressing X. Moreover, when a tool is upgraded to a higher quality, it automatically replaces the previous version, eliminating the need for the player to manually update anything in the tool menu.

All tools that have been upgraded beyond the initial "Makeshift" versions will experience a decrease in durability with prolonged use. If a tool becomes completely degraded, it will revert back to its previous and lower quality version, requiring the player to craft a new upgrade. It is essential for players to regularly assess the condition of their tools and perform any necessary repairs. The remaining durability of a tool can be observed by examining the bar surrounding its icon in the tool menu.

To restore their tools, players have the option of heading to Kilima Village and making use of Sifuu the Blacksmith's forge. By interacting with the anvil, they can conveniently carry out repairs. Furthermore, upon constructing a Repair Station at their housing plot, players can also attend to tool maintenance there. Hodari offers the recipe for the Repair Station once players attain a Mining Skill Level of 4.

All tools require either Gold or Repair Kits to have their durability restored. The tools in Palia can be upgraded by purchasing recipes that become available upon reaching a certain level in the relevant skill. To acquire a recipe, players can visit the Guild Master of the corresponding skill and make a purchase. Finding these NPCs is made easy by opening the Map and searching for their portrait circle. By clicking the middle mouse button, players can set a waypoint to the NPC's location which will update as the character moves.

Once the player has mastered the new recipe, they can create a higher-quality tool at the Worktable. This upgraded tool will replace the previous version in the player's inventory. However, crafting these advanced tools requires Gold and different materials, some of which can only be obtained by upgrading other tools. With three tiers of upgrades available for each tool, the player must progress through each tier in order. The crafting of each tool also necessitates the use of the previous tier's tool as one of the required materials.

During the game's initial quest titled "Welcome to Palia," players are bestowed the Axe by Ashura. To obtain the Makeshift Axe, players need to find and engage with Ashura, who will then grant them the weapon. Afterward, Ashura directs players to proceed towards their next destination to meet Hodari.

Recipes for improving the Axe can be obtained by leveling up the Foraging skill and purchasing them from a character named Ashura. The player can gain Foraging experience by cutting down trees and bushes, as well as collecting plants that grow in the wild. It's important to note that upgrades to the Axe will exclusively enhance the player's ability to chop trees and bushes, without impacting their competence in foraging plants.

Belt (Bug Catching Tool)

The Belt, in combination with consumable Smoke Bombs, is utilized throughout Palia as a tool for capturing wild insects in order to enhance the player's Bug Catching skill. These captured bugs can be exchanged for Gold at the General Store, and particularly exceptional bugs can be showcased in Terrariums. The player is given the Makeshift Bow by Hassian, who can be found wandering Kilima Village or occasionally in Bahari Bay. After locating and speaking with Hassian, he will send the player an in-game mail early in their adventure. Hassian will also provide the player with the recipe to craft Makeshift Arrows at the Worktable.

How to Upgrade the Bow

After the player enhances their Hunting skill, they can unlock and buy recipes for superior Bows and enhanced Arrows from Hassian. By defeating wildlife across Palia, the player can raise their Hunting level. How to Unlock the Rod

The Rod is acquired from Einar, a legendary golem who now serves as the esteemed Fishing Guild Master in the area. To initiate the encounter, Einar will send a letter to the player, inviting them to pay a visit to the enchanting Fisherman's Lagoon early on in their adventure. Upon reaching his coastal camp, the player can engage in a conversation with Einar, who will graciously impart them with the Makeshift Fishing Rod. This will mark the beginning of the quest known as "Fishing 101."

How to Upgrade the Rod

Hoe (Gardening Tool)

The Hoe is a dedicated Gardening tool designed specifically for breaking up and preparing soil on the player's housing plot. These seeds can be obtained by purchasing them at Kilima Village's General Store in exchange for Gold. Additionally, players can also acquire seeds as rewards for completing quests or as generous offerings from the villagers themselves.

The player will obtain the Makeshift Hoe in the quest "Learning The Ropes," which becomes available after completing "Welcome to Palia." In this quest, the player is tasked with finding and introducing themselves to three distinct NPCs, each serving as the Master of a particular skill. Badruu will grant the player the Makeshift Hoe and also assign them the quest "Gardening 101."

The player can upgrade the Hoe once they have raised their Gardening skill. At this point, players will be presented with the Makeshift Pick and given explicit instructions to eliminate any obstacles and clear the surrounding area of debris in their newfound property. It is noteworthy that players can take immediate action by breaking down rocks and honing their Mining skills, thus gaining valuable experience within this quest.

The Watering Can is an essential tool for gardening in Palia, working in conjunction with the Hoe. While the Hoe is responsible for preparing the soil for planting crops, the Watering Can plays a vital role in nurturing the seedlings, facilitating their transformation into valuable ingredients such as Cotton, Tomato, Rice, and more. It is necessary to periodically refill the Watering Can at a nearby water source to ensure its continuous functionality.

The Makeshift Watering Can is given to the player by Badruu alongside the Makeshift Hoe during the quest “Learning The Ropes,” as both are necessary for Gardening.

How to Upgrade the Watering Can

The Watering Can can be improved by acquiring recipes from Badruu after reaching certain levels of Gardening skill. With each upgrade, the Watering Can's water capacity increases, enabling the player to water a larger number of crops simultaneously and speeding up the watering process.
