Morningstars in
Baldur's Gate 3
deal Piercing damage and benefit from the character's Strength Modifier.
The standard non-magical Morningstar is a convenient option for those seeking self-imposed challenges and is readily available for purchase or discovery.
The superior Morningstars offer additional damage and distinctive abilities, exemplified by Ravengard's Scourger and The Sacred Star.
Morningstars in Baldur's Gate 3 are one-handed melee weapons that inflict Piercing damage. To fully utilize their potential, characters must possess Martial Proficiency. Like other exceptional melee weapons in BG3, Morningstars benefit from the character's Strength Modifier, which adds to their damage output.
In the game, there are only five Morningstars available, each equipped with two standard Actions and one Reaction. For instance, Heartstopper can cause severe damage to an enemy's chest, potentially leading to Chest Trauma. Similarly, Concussive Smash delivers a powerful blow with the character's strength, dealing damage and possibly causing Daze. The most exceptional Morningstars in Baldur's Gate 3 boast additional bonus damage and unique effects, making them remarkably powerful.
5 Morningstar
Damage | Rarity | Weapon Skills |
---|---|---|
1d8 Piercing | Common | N/A |
The Morningstar, serving as a regular weapon in the Morningstar family within BG3, presents an excellent option for players seeking to elevate the level of difficulty by imposing self-restrictions like exclusively utilizing non-magical weapons.
It is also a viable choice for the initial phases of the game, and players should have no trouble locating it in numerous random spots. To acquire it, though, the Morningstar can be purchased at a low cost from Dammon the Infernal Mechanic and merchant at the Emerald Grove, as well as from Roah Moonglow at the Goblin Camp.
4 Morningstar +1
Damage | Rarity | Weapon Skills |
---|---|---|
1d8 + 1 Piercing | Uncommon | N/A |
If players are willing to spend extra, the Morningstar +1 is always a superior option compared to the standard non-magical Morningstar, and it happens to be sold in the same locations. Depending on their level, players can purchase the Morningstar +1 and various other excellent weapons from Dammon, the Infernal Mechanic and merchant who can initially be found in the Emerald Grove.
It is also available at the Shattered Sanctum from Roah Moonglow. The Weapon Enchantment, +1 of this weapon, simply implies that +1 is added to each Attack and Damage Roll, resulting in players hitting their targets more frequently and causing slightly more damage.
3 Ravengard's Scourger
Damage | Rarity | Weapon Skills |
---|---|---|
1d8 + 2 Piercing | Rare | Commander's Strike: Direct an ally to strike a foe. The ally uses a reaction on their next turn to make a weapon attack. |
The Rare Morningstar, known as Ravengard's Scourger, appears to have been previously owned by Duke Ravengard, the father of Wyll. It boasts impressive base damage, attributed to its Weapon Enchantment +2. Additionally, this enchantment provides a +2 bonus to both Attack Rolls and Damage Rolls.
The most notable feature of Ravengard's Scourger is its Commander's Strike ability, which should be strategically employed on the strongest melee ally to bestow them with an additional attack on a critical target. To acquire this specific Morningstar, players must patiently await Act 3 and uncover the Counting House situated along the southern coast of the Lower City of Baldur's Gate. Once successfully infiltrated, the weapon can be procured from the highly secured Vault Number 5.
2 Twist Of Fortune
Damage | Rarity | Weapon Skills |
---|---|---|
1d8 + 1 Piercing | Rare | Twist of Fortune: When you roll 2 or less with this weapon's damage die, reroll it and take the new result. Blood Money: Strike out greedily, dealing an additional 4 Piercing damage per 300 gold that the target possesses. |
Despite only increasing damage by +1, Twist of Fortune in Morningstar is an intriguing choice for players. This is because of the Twist of Fortune passive, which allows for a reroll of the damage die when it rolls 2 or less. While the second roll can still result in a low damage, the likelihood of rolling high after a low roll is significantly higher over multiple battles.
The Blood Money action stands out as one of the most distinct abilities in the game. While it may be ineffective against adversaries without wealth, it can inflict significant damage on those characters who are unnecessarily rich. Twist of Fortune can be obtained by defeating Gerringothe Thorm, the toll collector at Reithwin Tollhouse, during Act 2. If players choose to fight Gerringothe rather than give her their money, they should ensure that their funds are sent back to camp. Failure to do so will result in a devastating blow from the Blood Money attack.
1 The Sacred Star
Damage | Rarity | Weapon Skills |
---|---|---|
1d8 + 2 Piercing + 1d4 Radiant | Very Rare | Radiant Strike: On a hit, inflict 1 turn of Radiating Orb upon the target. Sanctified Weapon: Undead creatures struck by this weapon are possibly Turned. Dawnburst Strike: Deal additional Radiant damage equal to your Proficiency Bonus. On a hit, light erupts around you in an area. Enemies in the light must succeed a DC 13 Constitution Saving Throw or be Blinded. |
The unparalleled Morningstar, known as the Sacred Star, reigns supreme in Baldur's Gate 3. Its unrivaled Piercing damage, coupled with additional Radiant damage and distinctive enhancements, sets it apart. By relentlessly afflicting adversaries with the Radiating Orb and inflicting a -1 penalty to their Attack Rolls, players enhance their chances of survival during encounters. Additionally, the Sanctified Weapon feature ensures victorious battles against the undead.
To get their hands on The Sacred Star, players can purchase it from Vicar Humbletoes in the house of worship known as Stormshore Tabernacle during Act 3 of the game.
