Summary
The director of Ted Lasso, Declan Lowney, explains how the scene with Keeley, Jamie, and Roy was shot in the season 3 finale and remained impartial.
Lowney suggests that Keeley should not choose between Jamie and Roy as they are limiting her options. Instead, he hopes that they can all maintain a friendly relationship, but mentions the possibility of Keeley meeting someone new, which may lead to one of them feeling disappointed.
Ted Lasso director Declan Lowney has weighed in on the love triangle involving Keeley Jones, Jamie Tartt, and Roy Kent. Initially, Keeley dated Jamie in season 1, but they broke up. She then started dating Roy, but they also broke up between seasons 2 and 3. The situation became more complicated due to the genuine friendship that developed between Jamie and Roy. In season 3, there was a scene where Keeley had to choose between the two men, but she ultimately chose neither. Lowney recently revealed his unexpected opinion on who Keeley should end up with going forward. Here are his comments, as shared with Awards Daily.
"We took great care in shooting the scene where Roy and Jamie confront Keeley, positioning them on either side of her while maintaining equal importance for each character. The camera perspective always remained behind Keeley, capturing both Roy and Jamie in the middle when focusing on her. Our objective was to maintain impartiality throughout the scene."
"I have reservations about Keeley ending up with either of them, especially since they have assumed she can only choose between them. It would be preferable if they allowed her to have the option of picking someone else. Ideally, they should all remain good friends, but perhaps Keeley will find someone new. If she decides to be with one of them, the other will undoubtedly be disappointed."
How Keeley's Story Can Continue
Jason Sudeikis considers Ted Lasso season 3 as the conclusion of the story he intended to share. However, the season finale provides an opening for additional narratives, specifically involving Keeley's future. In the finale, Keeley proposes the idea of a women's soccer team for AFC Richmond to Rebecca Welton, which excites both of them. This sets the stage for a potential spinoff series, where Keeley and Rebecca work together to establish the AFC Richmond women's team. This journey will undeniably be filled with numerous challenges and heartwarming triumphs, much like the original Ted Lasso.
Similar to the original series, the spinoff could focus on the team's progress while delving into the characters' personal relationships. Lowney's suggestion of Keeley maintaining her friendships with Jamie and Roy, while also exploring new connections, could be integrated into the spinoff. Keeley and Rebecca would likely be the central figures in the Ted Lasso spinoff, alongside new characters involved in the management and playing of the women's team. Established characters like Jamie, Roy, and others from the men's team could also appear in the series, although their presence may not be consistent in every episode.
With the confirmation of Keeley's bisexuality in season 3 of Ted Lasso, there are numerous possibilities for potential romantic partners for Keeley, including the possibility of a relationship with a woman on the new AFC Richmond team. However, it is equally valid for Keeley to choose to remain single. In the past, Ted Lasso may have placed too much emphasis on Keeley's romantic issues, neglecting to explore her individuality. To address this, the Ted Lasso spinoff could rectify the situation by prioritizing Keeley's professional endeavors and her friendship with Rebecca.
