With Winter looming, farmers must diligently gather their crops before the frost sets in. Among the plentiful bounties of Fall are the Common Mushrooms, flourishing abundantly during this time.

Distinguished by their brownish hue in Stardew Valley, Common Mushrooms possess a distinctive texture and a subtly nutty taste. These adaptable fungi can be ingested to offer a modest increase in the player's energy and health, or utilized in a multitude of culinary and crafting recipes.

Where to Find Common Mushrooms

Foraging

The best way for players to get Common Mushrooms is by Foraging. Players can find these nutty mushrooms in several spots throughout Stardew Valley during the Fall.

Players have a 16% chance to find Common Mushrooms in the Secret Woods during Spring, and a 25% chance of finding them on the Forest Farm map during Summer.

You can also find Common Mushrooms in the Mushroom Cave located on Ginger Island, north of the Dig Site. Every day, this cave produces random mushrooms that players can collect.

If players have selected the Gatherer profession, there is a 20% chance of getting a double harvest of foraged items. On the other hand, players with the Botanist profession are assured that they will collect forageables of the highest quality.

Growing Common Mushrooms

To obtain Common Mushrooms, you can opt for cultivating them on your own farm. These mushrooms can be grown using Fall Wild Seeds. Regrettably, they are not available for purchase at either Pierre’s General Store or JojaMart. Nevertheless, you may stumble upon them occasionally at the Traveling Cart, where they are sold at prices varying between 135 and 1,000 gold.

To acquire these seeds more easily, you can craft them instead. Crafting the Crafting recipe "Wild Seeds (Fa)" at Foraging Level 6 allows you to obtain 10 Fall Seeds. The necessary ingredients include:

1 Common Mushroom

1 Hazelnut

1 Wild Plum

Fall Seeds take 7 days to grow. Mature plants have an equal chance of producing any of the following crops: Common Mushroom, Blackberry, Hazelnut, or Wild Plum.

Tapping Mushroom Trees

When Mushroom Trees are tapped with a Tapper, they yield Common Mushrooms, Red Mushrooms, and Purple Mushrooms throughout all seasons except Winter. The type of mushroom produced during the first harvest varies depending on the season. Common Mushrooms can be collected during Spring or Summer, whereas Red Mushrooms only appear in Fall.

Mushroom Trees require two nights in Spring or Summer, or one night in Fall, for the Mushrooms to be ready for harvesting.

The Farm Cave

The Farm Cave can only be accessed after players have accumulated 25,000 gold. Once this goal is achieved, Demetrius, the resident scientist, offers players a decision: they can either use the cave to cultivate mushrooms or allow fruit bats to occupy it. Choosing the mushroom option leads to the inclusion of six compartments in the Cave, where different varieties of mushrooms grow on a daily basis.

This is a good option for players who wish to grow the Common Mushrooms. There is a 69.8% chance per day of them spawning in the Cave.

Uses of Common Mushrooms

Apart from being utilized for crafting Wild Seeds (Fa), Common Mushrooms serve as a suitable gift option for Linus, Leah, and Harvey; however, the remaining villagers do not particularly appreciate this specific fungus. They are the exclusive forageable item during the fall season that can be directly processed in the Seed Maker, resulting in the production of 1-3 Fall Seeds. Common Mushrooms are also necessary for completing the Fall Foraging Bundle located in the Crafts Room at the Community Center. Additionally, they play a significant role in various quests and cooking recipes.

Quests

The "Help Wanted" board at Pierre's General Store sometimes asks for the Common Mushroom during the Fall season. Players who deliver this item will receive 120 gold and 150 Friendship Points.

As part of Fish Pond quests, Bullhead, Woodskip, Midnight Carp, or Largemouth Bass may occasionally request 2 to 3 Common Mushrooms.
