Cosmetic items enhance the enjoyment of gaming, especially as the demand for increased character customization grows in the online gaming industry. In response, developers continuously develop new skins to engage their player base. In Destiny 2, shaders are used to alter gear texture and color, and like many multiplayer games, these shaders come in varying levels of rarity.
In Destiny 2, players can easily acquire numerous shaders through various means such as the Eververse in exchange for Bright Dust, Crucible matches, chest openings, and raids. However, there are a handful of shaders in the game that are exceedingly difficult to obtain. These shaders are so rare that only a small percentage of players actually have them in their inventories.
Obtaining these rare shaders required a significant amount of effort, as the requirements for their unique activities were often too challenging for many gamers to overcome. Recognizing their scarcity, developer Bungie reintroduced some of the previously inaccessible shaders to Destiny 2 for a limited time, providing players with another opportunity to obtain them. These shaders can be obtained through Vanguard Ops, traditional game modes, or the transmog vendor. While many shaders can be earned by completing specific in-game activities, a select few can only be obtained by donating to Bungie's charitable causes. It comes as no surprise that these items are considered the rarest cosmetic items in Destiny 2.
Small Luminance
Terrachroma
The crown of the rarest shader is currently held by Small Luminance, worn by only 0.2% of Destiny 2 players. The shader's rarity is primarily due to its price tag, as it is exclusively attainable by donating $10,000 to the Bungie Foundation. Apart from Small Luminance, there are a handful of other skins in Destiny 2 that remain unseen by players, including Hearts of Gold, Principled Porphyry, and Argent Champion. These exclusive skins can only be unlocked through donations, similar to the case of Small Luminance. Destiny 2 introduced this exotic skin in 2022.
The Terrachroma Shader, available for purchase in Destiny 2, was featured as promotional material in an issue of the esteemed Japanese gaming magazine Weekly Famitsu. Introduced in late 2021, this highly sought-after skin is currently owned by approximately 0.5% of Destiny 2's dedicated player base.
3 Connections
3 Connections is an exclusive offer which can only be obtained by watching a live stream on Bilibili, a streaming platform based in Shanghai. Obtaining this shader requires a challenging process, making it one of the most coveted shaders in Destiny 2. It is estimated that only approximately 1% of players have this unique skin in their collection.
Opaline Shatter
Introduced in Season 20, Opaline Shatter became available in Destiny 2: Lightfall's raid, Root of Nightmares, set aboard the transformed vessel of the Witness. Despite Root of Nightmares being regarded as one of the game's more manageable raids, obtaining the Opaline Shatter cosmetic required the formidable feat of successfully completing each encounter without any member of the fireteam meeting their demise, an exceedingly challenging endeavor. Consequently, a mere 1.5% of Destiny 2 players possess this coveted item.
Sundered Flesh
Divinity's Caress
Mastering Destiny 2 requires flawlessly navigating through challenging raids, and as a testament to one's skill, completing the King's Fall Raid without a single death rewards players with the coveted Sundered Flesh. In the Season of the Plunder, this iconic raid made its triumphant return to the franchise. However, the arduous nature of the raid meant that the majority of players were unable to overcome its trials, with a mere 1.96% of Destiny 2 players achieving the ultimate victory of acquiring the Crux of the King.
Divinity's Caress is an enhancement that demands flawless execution, much like Opaline Shatter. Each member of the fireteam must remain alive throughout the rigorous Vow of the Disciple Raid in order to obtain the coveted Risen From the Deep triumph and acquire this prestigious shader. Only a mere 3% of players can proudly claim possession of this exclusive Season 16 addition.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
