It can be difficult to determine which options are the most effective for each stage of the game, with the exception of weapons.
The spacesuit worn by the player has the greatest impact on their survival in combat and exploration in Starfield. Many of the game's planets and moons pose a significant danger, comparable to any enemy. This list focuses on spacesuits that include a suit and helmet combination, excluding individual pieces of equipment. The Pirate Assault set is a standout choice for players starting their journey in the game. Serving as the designated suit for the formidable Crimson Fleet fighters, this set strikes a balance between enhanced protection and lightweight mobility. While other Pirate sets may offer either superior defense or increased agility, the Assault set finds its sweet spot right in the middle.
How to Get the Pirate Assault Set:
5 Shocktrooper Set
Acquiring this set in the first few hours of playing Starfield would be expected, if not downright surprising if a player didn't. Countless Crimson Fleet combat fighters wear this set, and they can be found in almost every settlement they occupy. During the early stages of the game, players will encounter a group of Crimson Fleet members, eventually leading to the decision of either attacking or persuading Brogan. It is highly likely that players will have the opportunity to loot at least a portion of the set at this point, if not the entire ensemble.
In the early-to-mid portion of the game, players have the option to acquire several sets that offer reliable protection. Among these are the Deepseeker set and the Space Trucker set, offering a wide range of choices. While certain sets may excel in specific areas, the Shocktrooper set stands out by not having any weaknesses. It significantly outperforms early game sets such as the Pirate Assault set and the basic Constellation set.
How to Get the Shocktrooper Set:
The Shocktrooper set is a highly sought after lootable item in Starfield. Throughout the game, players are likely to come across multiple pieces of this set. However, for those who wish to acquire it immediately, the current best option is to simply purchase it. Although it is challenging to guarantee availability at any specific merchant location in Starfield, players should be able to locate the Shocktrooper set relatively quickly in one of the major commerce hubs within the Settled Systems, such as New Atlantis or Neon.
4 Mantis Set
The Mantis set is linked to Starfield's 'Mantis' quest and can be obtained early in the game. What makes this set truly exceptional is its inclusion in a comprehensive collection of items, including the Razorleaf ship, which were utilized by a justice-seeking vigilante named...the Mantis.
Despite its early availability in the game, this suit still faces some major drawbacks. Other suits offer superior protection against the elements and the weight of this suit is particularly burdensome. Additionally, the set's perks can be inconsistent, leading some players to rely on save-scumming for desired outcomes. Nevertheless, considering its accessibility, this suit warrants inclusion on any list of the top suits in Starfield.
How to Get the Mantis Set:
The Mantis set can only be obtained by successfully finishing the 'Mantis' side-quest in Starfield. To acquire the 'Secret Outpost!' slate from a Spacer, players will need to visit various locations where these individuals are known to reside. It is highly recommended to explore any location inhabited by Spacers, as the slate is typically found by looting the remains of defeated enemies.
3 Constellation Mark I Set
The Mark I set serves as the initial prototype for the esteemed Constellation Set. While its core attributes already position it as one of the top contenders in the mid-game sets category, its visual allure propels it even further up this coveted list. For players seeking an immersive gaming experience, this set is a perfect choice, as it is intrinsically intertwined with the establishment of the renowned Constellation group. Expanding its enduring utility considerably are Starfield's groundbreaking research and modding systems, which effectively elongate its lifespan and potential.
How to Get the Mark I Set:
2 Bounty Hunter Set
The Mark I set can be discovered in a glass case located in the basement of the Lodge, which serves as Constellation's headquarters in New Atlantis. Although it is guarded by an advanced lock, players have managed to circumvent the necessity of upgrading their Security skill and acquire the suit right from the beginning of the game. The Bounty Hunter set is highly sought after by fans for its exceptional durability and striking resemblance to the armor worn by a renowned bounty hunter in a distant galaxy. While there may be debates regarding its authenticity, there's no denying that the Bounty Hunter set is exceptionally resilient. Widely regarded as the top-tier basic equipment in the game, its only vulnerability lies in its lack of protection against radiation. However, this drawback can be overcome through upgrades, further enhancing the set's already formidable strength.
How to Get the Bounty Hunter Set:
Similar to other suits in Starfield, the Bounty Hunter set can be obtained by looting enemy factions, particularly Spacers, as most other groups have their own specific sets. Another way to acquire a piece of the set without any cost is by visiting the Mantis lair on Denebola I-b (for more details on the location, refer to the section on the Mantis suit). Halfway through the lair, players will encounter a flight of stairs that lead directly into a wall with a window. To the right of that window, there is a small living space with a cot. At the end of the cot, there is a silver case with red stripes, which typically contains spacesuits. This case consistently contains a Calibrated Bounty Hunter suit, although it only includes the suit itself, without the helmet or pack.
Players won't need to search far to purchase the remaining pieces of the set. Sieghart's Outfitters in Neon has proven to be a reliable source for the Bounty Hunter set, although they may sometimes only have the helmet and pack in stock. Nevertheless, this is sufficient for those who have already obtained the suit.

How to Get the Starborn Suits:
While the image displays the Bellum version of the Starborn suit, players have the opportunity to acquire a total of 10 different suits. These sets represent the pinnacle of end-game content, surpassing all others in Starfield. Among these coveted outfits are the Hunter and Emissary suits, which are highly sought after. Boasting a combination of extraordinary perks and an exceptional weight-to-protection ratio, it is safe to declare each of these suits as the absolute best in Starfield.
Starborn suits in Starfield can only be obtained in two ways: by looting or by successfully completing the game. Upon reaching the end of the game, players will enter the New Game Plus cycle. To avoid spoiling the experience, it is sufficient to mention that with each cycle, players will acquire a fresh Starborn suit. However, starting a new cycle will result in the loss of the current Starborn suit. Regrettably, there is no way to have all the suits in a single inventory unless one resorts to mods and console commands. Instead, each subsequent cycle will present players with a more powerful version of the suit, eventually culminating in the Hunter's suit, known as the Venator, on the tenth cycle.
You can acquire a Starborn suit by looting the bodies of the Hunter and the Emissary at the end of Starfield's penultimate mission, 'Revelation'. The Emissary has a higher chance of dropping a basic version of his suit, known as the Gravitas, which players can obtain on their sixth playthrough of the Unity. However, if you want to acquire legendary versions of any Starfield suit, you must do it through the New Game Plus cycle. Starfield can be played on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
