The Sims 4, an installment in the popular Sims series, allows players to unleash their creativity by engaging in activities such as starting a family, building houses, completing daily tasks, and designing desired outfits within the game. As players embark on their journey to create a simulated life, they may encounter various aspects of gameplay that can be challenging, particularly for beginners.
One such aspect is foundations. Foundations are architectural elements used to raise the ground floor above ground level. In previous versions of the Sims series, the Foundation Tool was commonly utilized to add foundations to a piece of land. However, many players struggle with understanding how to add and modify foundations due to changes implemented in The Sims 4. This guide provides a step-by-step process for adding foundations in The Sims 4.
How To Add Foundation in Sims 4
To add a foundation, follow the simple steps outlined below:
1. Access build mode by either pressing the F2 key on your keyboard or by clicking on the icon situated at the top right corner of your screen.
Create or select a room in the relevant location.
Click on any wall of the room
Find the vertical arrow to elevate the foundation to desired height.
Upon reaching the desired height, the next step is to head over to the Foundations menu and pick a suitable wallpaper.
Players can select a color according to their liking.
With the availability of Construction tools, players can utilize the wall tool to build a terrace, a balcony, or a basement.
Players can only place foundations on either the smooth surface of suburbia or over rough and uneven terrain, including decking, patio, and elevated areas.
How to Lower Foundations
At times, foundations may not enhance the overall appearance and players may desire to remove them and revert to the previous layout. Regrettably, The Sims 4 does not offer a direct option to remove foundations. However, it is possible to achieve a similar effect by setting the foundation value to a negative value. Follow these steps to do so.
Select any wall just like before in the build mode.
The downwards arrow reduces the foundation height, effectively removing the elevated foundation.
Moreover, if players desire a sunken floor bringing down the foundation further will achieve this effect.
The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
