Forza Motorsport marks the return of the beloved Microsoft racing franchise, offering a more realistic driving experience and presentation compared to its counterpart, Forza Horizon. Those who are subscribed to Game Pass and interested in a new sim-racing game should definitely give it a shot.
While some features might not surprise experienced sim-racing fans, they may prove to be a slight inconvenience for casual players. One notable change is that every race in Forza Motorsport now kicks off with a practice session. During this period, players have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the track and optimize their performance for the upcoming race. However, it is important to note that participating in these practice sessions is not obligatory. Below, we outline the benefits of engaging in the practice sessions, as well as how players can choose to skip them if desired.
Practice Sessions
At the start of each race, players will begin by parking in the pit lane for practice sessions. Here, they can customize their car and adjust difficulty settings. To begin practicing on the track, simply press the "start practice" button. The objectives for this session are to complete three laps and achieve a specific lap time. This time can be utilized by fans to familiarize themselves with the track and its corners.
Players will earn experience points for performing well in various segments of the track. Additionally, driving around the track will also accumulate experience points for the specific car being driven by the player. It is crucial to level up cars as it enables the player to purchase more upgrades and parts for their preferred vehicle. Moreover, players can utilize this time to practice pit stops, which will be necessary for longer races involving refueling or tire changes.
Upon completing three laps, a 10-minute timer will commence for the remainder of the practice session. To conclude the session, press the right button on the D-pad. If needed, the session can be restarted by pressing the left button on the D-pad once the ten-minute timer has begun.
How to Skip Practice Sessions
Players who prefer a more laid-back experience or are already familiar with a particular track have the option to skip these sessions. However, at launch, players are still required to initiate each practice session in order to proceed to the race. Once the practice has commenced, simply press the pause button and navigate to the "Exit" option. Clicking on it will provide the choices to restart, quit the event, or skip practice altogether. By selecting "Skip Practice," the game will prompt the player once more to confirm their decision. Choose the "Yes" option to bypass practice and dive straight into the race.
Forza Motorsport is currently available on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
