Madi Prewett Troutt is opening up about the significance of communication in her first year of marriage to Grant Troutt.
"I realized that it was unfair of me to expect him to automatically know my needs and desires when we first got married," shared the 27-year-old Bachelor alum in an exclusive interview with We. This revelation led Madi to express her desire for quality time together after returning from trips, such as sharing a meal and engaging in meaningful conversation. She emphasized the importance of communicating her needs to her husband, as he couldn't intuitively understand them. Through trial and error, they have learned the value of effective communication, acknowledging both successful and unsuccessful moments. Madi emphasized the necessity of showing grace and patience towards one another.
Madi and Grant, both 27, tied the knot in October 2022 after less than a year of dating. They chose to wait until marriage before living together.
"I quickly learned not to take life too seriously," Madi said. "Grant is not perfect, so he will disappoint me at times, and I won't always meet all his needs. The same goes for him. That's why I don't place all my hope in him. As a believer, it's crucial to prioritize my relationship with God. If I rely solely on a person or a human relationship for my worth, purpose, and fulfillment, I will consistently be let down."

The former ABC star attributes her ability to handle conflict with her spouse to her early morning prayer routine.
Each day, she begins by waking up and dedicating time to connect with God. She retreats to her prayer closet, where she engages in prayer and immerses herself in Bible reading. This practice allows her to fill herself with spiritual strength and reminds her of the core values that matter most.
From this centered state, she can fulfill her role as a loving and supportive wife, meeting her spouse's needs. Both she and her partner recognize the significance of this practice, particularly when they face disagreements or conflicts.
She shared with Us that neglecting this morning routine can bring out an unattractive side of her, characterized by selfishness and unrealistic expectations. Consequently, it is crucial for her to start her day by aligning her heart with the Lord and loving from this foundation.
Madi and Grant crossed paths in late 2021 and decided to take their relationship to the next level by getting engaged in July 2022.
In a conversation with Us, Madi shared, "After my appearance on [The Bachelor], I immediately entered into a new relationship. Unfortunately, that relationship ended, and I embraced my single life. It was during this phase that I was introduced to my now-husband, Grant, by our mutual friends." She continued, "I never reached a stage where I contemplated whether I should try using a dating app. However, I have friends who are at that point, and I have encouraged them by saying, 'You should give it a try!'"
Madi is now teaming up with Upward Christian Dating to help single Christians find The One.

One of the difficulties in dating is going on a date without having asked important questions about faith, values, upbringing, and future aspirations. What's great about Upward is that it enables you to do this upfront work early on. When using this app, you can have some assurance that the people you come across - while there may be varying degrees - share the same beliefs and values.
In addition, as Christians, we sometimes wait for God to simply place something in our path. However, it's important to recognize that there are occasions where we need to step out of our comfort zone, take a leap of faith, and demonstrate courage. By creating opportunities and immersing ourselves in environments where we can meet the right people, we increase our chances of finding success in relationships.
