As the monsters in Remnant 2 grow stronger, it is imperative that players enhance their arsenal with both conventional and otherworldly weapons. Upgrading equipment serves as the key method to advance into the later stages of the game, making it essential for everyone to refine their preferred sword or rifle while exploring the diverse worlds of Remnant 2.
While the upgrading process in this game remains relatively straightforward, certain aspects lack proper explanation. Obtaining Hardened Iron, for instance, is surprisingly effortless, albeit players might not discover this resource until reaching the latter part of their initial playthrough. Here's a guide on how to locate them.
Where to Find Hardened Iron
Hardened Iron serves as the ultimate upgrade material in Remnant 2, essential for fully enhancing core gear components. To amass a significant quantity of Hardened Iron, players must pursue the same methods employed to acquire the preceding tiers of Iron. These encompass vanquishing formidable monsters or discovering scattered Hardened Iron fragments strewn throughout the game's diverse maps.
Although Remnant 2 neglects to explicitly elucidate this, players must fulfill a specific criterion in order to augment the likelihood of encountering Hardened Iron. Merely possessing three weapons that have achieved, or nearly achieved, an upgrade level of 15 (or +8 in the case of unique weapons) is paramount. By satisfying this prerequisite, the game will consequently recognize the player's genuine necessity, thereby bestowing an increased prevalence of Hardened Iron drops.
Difficulty does not seem to affect the frequency of Hardened Iron spawns, although loot drops generally tend to be more abundant in harder modes. Players can achieve maximum upgrades for their main weapon set on Survivor difficulty by grinding relentlessly. However, stockpiling resources is best achieved by farming on Veteran or Nightmare mode.
To obtain Hardened Iron more easily, players can purchase them from Cass, a friend of the player who can be found in Ward 13. Cass, now a junk vendor, keeps a sufficient supply of weapon upgrade materials in her inventory, which replenishes over time. It is worth noting that players may need to progress further in the campaign before Cass starts selling larger quantities of Hardened Iron.
Standard weapons, which possess mod slots that can be freely utilized, require 28 units of Hardened Iron to enhance from +15 to +20. On the other hand, unique weapons, crafted from boss materials, only necessitate a total of 25 units of Hardened Iron to reach +10. It is important to remember, however, that the latter category of weapons also requires Lumenite Crystals and may be more costly to fully upgrade in comparison to regular equipment.
Remnant 2 is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
