Highlights
Wingrave is a tank character in Wayfinder who prioritizes protecting allies rather than dealing damage, making him a valuable addition to a team.
By utilizing his Healing Pulse ability, he can effectively restore his own health and also heal a nearby teammate through melee finishers. However, this ability is not commonly utilized due to his strong defense and focus on maintaining the health of the entire team.
The Divine Aegis ability of Wingrave plays a vital role in guaranteeing the survival of the team. It generates a protective barrier that not only heals allies but also grants them immunity against any damage. This ability proves to be exceptionally valuable in difficult encounters.
Instead of focusing on buffing allies like the other characters in Wayfinder, Wingrave stands out as the exception. His main priority is protecting his team and ensuring their survival after intense encounters. Despite his defensive role as a tank, Wingrave's offensive capabilities should not be underestimated, particularly with his powerful Bastion signature weapon. However, it is his abilities that truly make a significant impact on the battlefield.
5 Healing Pulse
Ability:
Melee finishers will heal Wingrave along with a single nearby teammate.
Healing Pulse, being a passive ability, can be easily overlooked, despite its usefulness for quick healing when Wingrave's health is low. However, these instances are rare due to Wingrave's high defense, and it doesn't align well with his focus on monitoring the team's health rather than finishing off enemies. Additionally, the ability's limited scope of healing only one ally further restricts its usefulness. Nevertheless, if Wingrave is cornered and has exhausted his abilities, using his hacking and slashing skills to regain health can still be an effective escape strategy.
4 Judgment
Ability:
Wingrave will mark multiple enemies within a small radius for Judgment. Attacking a marked enemy will restore health to the attacker.
When playing with a coordinated team who understands how to maximize its benefits, judgment can be a highly valuable skill. However, when playing with random strangers, it may not be as effective. It's important to note that activating this ability will temporarily leave Wingrave vulnerable, which can be problematic in a fast-paced game like Wayfinder where enemies are quick and agile.
Despite these limitations, judgment can be a life-saving ability if used correctly. Unlike other abilities that only benefit a single ally, judgment has an area of effect, healing anyone who attacks the target. This makes it easy to execute and particularly effective against enemies with high health, such as Enforcers. By coordinating their attacks and utilizing judgment, the team can recover their own HP and take down these formidable foes.
3 Radiant Pulse
Ability:
Wingrave deploys a shield that protects against projectiles and boosts the defense of any allies standing behind him.
Radiant Pulse is a situational but highly effective ability that can be a game-changer when used strategically by well-coordinated allies. It is particularly effective against enemies who rely on ranged attacks or deliver hefty damage with a single shot, such as the Deadeye Shrike. Additionally, Wayfinders like Senja and Kyros, who prefer close-quarters combat, can benefit greatly from the added defense provided by Radiant Pulse, allowing them to engage in battles without the constant fear of sustaining fatal injuries.
It is important to note that the shield generated by Wingrave's Radiant Pulse is significantly large, capable of safeguarding two to three team members simultaneously. Unlike stationary shields, it moves along with Wingrave, making it a valuable tool for leading a team into combat safely. Moreover, throwing out the shield is not a high-risk maneuver and can prove useful in most scenarios, as long as the team understands the importance of positioning themselves behind Wingrave when he activates the ability.
2 Righteous Strike
Ability:
Attacking an enemy will create an explosion that heals Wingrave and nearby allies. The attack has a large radius and can knock down weaker enemies.
While Wingrave's kit primarily focuses on buffing the team and keeping them alive, Righteous Strike accomplishes both of these goals while also providing him with offensive potential. It has a large area of effect (AOE) and can knock down weaker enemies, making them vulnerable to ally attacks.
Righteous Strike is generally always useful and players should aim to become familiar with its range in order to hit as many enemies as possible. The more enemies hit by the strike, the more health will be restored to Wingrave's nearby allies. This ability is particularly effective for crowd control and is considered one of the most powerful abilities in the game.
1 Divine Aegis
Ability:
Wingrave creates a large barrier that heals allies over time and makes them immune to all damage for several seconds.
Divine Aegis is not only Wingrave's most powerful ability, but it is also one of the most crucial skills in the game for hunting beasts, navigating dungeons, and defeating powerful bosses. This ability ensures the survival of the entire team by creating a large protective barrier that easily covers everyone, even if they are spread out. This makes Wingrave's job much easier as he can quickly deploy it without worrying about precise placement.
Furthermore, Divine Aegis has incredibly fast healing capabilities, capable of restoring all team members to full health in a matter of seconds. However, its true strength lies in the invulnerability it provides. With a single activation, Wingrave can completely change the course of a battle, safeguarding his allies for a few precious moments. This can be a game-changer when facing formidable bosses. While the cooldown period is relatively slow, players should exercise caution and not overuse it. By deploying Divine Aegis in risky situations, players can save their entire team from a tragic defeat mid-battle.
Wayfinder is currently available for early access on PC and PlayStation 5, with a full release for Xbox Series S and X, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and 5, and PC set for late 2023.
