The Horse Ranch Expansion pack for The Sims 4 introduces a new theme and gameplay centered around owning and raising horses and other ranch animals. It also includes a variety of new CAS items that fit the pack's western ranch theme. Most importantly, the expansion brings horses back to the game, a highly anticipated feature for fans of The Sims 3 franchise. While the number of CAS items may be limited, there is a special focus on creating unique options for horse customization. Additionally, players can still expect items that match the theme for all ages and genders, from infants and onwards.

Infant CAS Items

Unlike Growing Together, where infants had a big focus, this time they only get one CAS item, being a Full Body piece as a horse onesie with a variety of swatches.

Toddler CAS Items

Unlike infants, toddlers receive a more complete ensemble consisting of a full body suit, a top, a bottom, and a pair of shoes. These attire choices perfectly align with the Western style, especially the inclusion of cowboy boots. However, it is worth mentioning that accessories like a matching cowboy hat are not provided for toddlers in order to complement the theme.

Child CAS Items

Child Sims received a total of five fresh hairstyles - three for feminine Sims and three for masculine Sims, with one design shared by both. Moreover, there are two new tops, two new bottoms, and two types of hats, including a cowboy hat and a riding hat. Furthermore, a new cowboy boot item is now available for both genders. Both the feminine and masculine styles also each received a Styled Look.

Teen And Older CAS Items

The older age groups have received a greater variety of items compared to the younger life stages. A plethora of new items are now available to them, encompassing a wide range of options. While these items predominantly adhere to a Western theme, it is worth highlighting that the developers have also incorporated Native American items to promote diversity and inclusivity. There is an equitable distribution of both masculine and feminine options, ensuring a similar number of new items for both genders. However, it is important to note that no new makeup or skin details have been included in this pack. The complete list of items is as follows:

New Aspirations and Traits

Alongside the fresh array of apparel choices, teenage and adult Sims have been bestowed with an additional pair of new Aspirations and four fresh traits, whereupon accomplishing these aspirations two of the traits serve as rewarding perks. It comes as no surprise that two of these traits are directly linked to horses, echoing the presence of similar traits in the cats and dogs expansion. Meanwhile, the remaining trait encompasses the essence of ranch life and other livestock-related endeavors.

Rancher (Lifestyle): Sim characters who possess a natural talent for ranch life and derive a sense of accomplishment from their work. They find fulfillment in performing ranch chores and tending to their livestock.

Horse Lover (Social): Sim characters who develop deep connections with Horses. They effortlessly build relationships with and provide exceptional care for Horses compared to other Sims.

The new aspirations are more intriguing as they revolve around two captivating gameplay elements. One focuses on horse riding and competitions, while the other centers around the newly introduced skill of nectar-making. Curiously, there is no aspiration directly related to ranch management in this pack.

Championship Rider (Athletic): This Sim aspires to become one of the leading Horse Riders in the world and aims to prove their skill by participating in various Horse Competitions.

Expert Nectar Maker (Food): This Sim aspires to become a virtuoso in the realm of Nectar Making, fervently refining their skills in order to produce the utmost superior Nectars consistently. Moreover, their ultimate ambition is to generate an exorbitant amount of Simoleons through this venture.

Horse CAS closely resembles the CAS style used for creating cats and dogs in the Cats & Dogs Expansion Pack. This means that players can have a lot of control over the appearance and traits of their horses. The pack includes 11 traits specifically for horses. Like cats and dogs, horses have three life stages: Foal, Adult, and Elder.

One of the most important features of Horse CAS is the wide range of options available for customizing both the face and body of the horses. Players can choose from various head shapes, ears, muzzle shapes and colors, eye shapes and colors, and even a unicorn horn. They can also customize the body shape, hair, coat color, and pattern. In addition to existing breeds, players have the option to create their own mixed breeds or fantasy creatures using unique body and mane colors like pink, mint, and violet. The Paint Mode feature allows players to create unique textures and fur colors on their horses. While players can make slight adjustments to the details of their horse's structure in detailed edit mode, this is not as extensive as with human Sims.

Lastly, players have the opportunity to choose different outfits for their horses while riding. There are numerous options available, including a variety of swatches for saddles, bridles, and blankets. Additionally, players can select various accessories to enhance the overall look. It is worth mentioning that although players can choose not to use any accessories, they must select saddles, bridles, and blankets as essential riding equipment.
