The Pond Depths in Grounded holds a hidden treasure chest that requires the Mossy Key to unlock. However, locating this elusive key can be a challenge for some players. On the other hand, some players may stumble upon the Mossy Key before understanding its purpose. To assist both groups of players, this guide provides comprehensive information about Grounded's Mossy Key.
Updated on July 13th, 2023 by Russ Boswell: Although Grounded has received updates, the Mossy Key remains unchanged. Players can still find it in the same location mentioned in this guide. However, this can prove to be a difficult task as the key is concealed in a dark and foreboding area. To provide a better understanding of the search for the Mossy Key in Grounded and its corresponding rewards, the following guide has been updated.
Grounded: Mossy Key Location
To obtain the Mossy Key, players must equip a Bubble Helmet, Fin Flops, Spear, and Slime Lantern. Once prepared, players should head to the marked location on the map and dive into Grounded's Koi Pond. It is important to avoid any fish in the area. While descending, players will notice a stream of bubbles rising from a tube below them. By following this tube, they will eventually reach the Sunken T-Rex.
Swimming northwest from the Sunken T-Rex, players will come across a series of columns before entering an area filled with wires, electrical panels, and lights. Fans should make their way towards the two cylindrical lights mounted on the wall at the far end of this area and look right. They will notice a small opening in the ground covered with Algae. Grounded players must enter the opening, follow the tunnel, and reach a chasm with tubing where they can collect the Mossy Key lying on the ground nearby.
The area that houses the Mossy Key is dark and infested with Diving Bell Spiders, making navigation quite challenging. Players have two options for obtaining the key: either fight each spider encountered to make it easier to travel through the dark corridors, or attempt to swim past the creatures and snatch the key. While it is possible to outswim the spiders using the Fin Flops, it is easy to become disoriented in the low-visibility area, especially when being pursued by a mob of spiders.
Players are advised to equip a strong underwater weapon, such as the Bone Trident. This weapon can be obtained by analyzing a Diving Bell Spider chunk or a Sunken Bone, and requires 3 x Silk Rope, 3 x Diving Bell Spider Chunk, and 3 x Sunken Bone to craft.
Gronded: Mossy Key Sunken Chest Location
Once players have obtained the Mossy Key, they should make their way back to the Sunken T-Rex located in the Koi Pond. From there, they should swim northwest towards the columns mentioned earlier. Near the root, just past the first column, lies a chest on the ground, which can be unlocked using the Mossy Key. To provide clear directions, the chest's position has been marked on the map below, and inside awaits a reward for avid survival game fans.
The Sunken Outpost BURG.L Chip is obtained as a reward from the chest. By delivering this Auxiliary Chip to BURG.L at the Oak Lab, players can unlock the Splatburst Recipe, the Fin Flops Upgrade, and the Slime Lantern Upgrade. These unlocks require 2,500 Raw Science, 1,500 Raw Science, and 1,500 Raw Science respectively. It is advisable for players to carefully consider the order of their purchases.
The Splatburst offers a superior option to the explosive Bratburst, enabling players to attach the bomb to surfaces and enemies. Unlike the original Bratburst, which rolls uncontrollably upon launching, the Splatburst provides predictable and precise usage. Moreover, with the addition of the Fin Flops upgrade, players can swim at an accelerated pace, while the Slime Lanter upgrade prolongs the functioning time of the Slime Lantern by twofold.
Grounded is accessible on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
