Get ready for a thrilling experience! The Goosebumps TV series is here to give you chills and shocks with its trailer filled with spine-tingling jump scares. Drawing inspiration from beloved R.L. Stine classics, this new show is set to make a big impact.

According to the official synopsis, the upcoming series, premiering on Disney+ and Hulu on October 13, revolves around a group of five high schoolers who accidentally unleash supernatural forces upon their town. In order to protect their community, they must join forces and work together to save the day.

Starring Justin Long as an English teacher who relocates to a haunted mansion, Goosebumps guarantees a heightened level of fear compared to previous installments.

Originating from Stine's acclaimed YA series, also called Goosebumps, the show aired in the mid-1990s. Each episode revolved around a single book from the anthology series, providing opportunities for actors such as Ryan Gosling and Hayden Christensen to kick-start their careers. Eventually, two decades later, Goosebumps made its debut on the silver screen with Jack Black portraying Stine in the 2015 film. This was then followed by Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween three years later.

What Is the Synopsis of the Show?

When Long’s character moves into a haunted house, he's in for the surprise of his life. This holds true for a group of five teens as well, who decide to investigate the enigmatic death of Harold Biddle, the previous occupant of the mansion, which occurred 30 years ago. As the tagline suggests, "Scarier than you remember," the trailer showcases numerous chilling moments that harken back to some of the most captivating books in the series.

What ‘Goosebumps’ Books (and Characters) Will Be Referenced?

With the official poster of the series revealing a chilling glimpse of Slappy, the malevolent puppet from The Night of the Living Dummy novels, fans can anticipate his terrifying presence among our diverse set of characters. The teaser revolves around the eerie and prescient camera from Say Cheese and Die!, while the eerie birdie from the Cuckoo Clock of Doom serves as the ideal jump scare. Additionally, the timeless and iconic episode, The Haunted Mask, will feature prominently in the new series, along with the lesser-known yet captivating story, Go Eat Worms.

How Did R.L. Stine React to the New Adaptation?

Receiving an email from R.L. Stine expressing his excitement about our adaptation of his property was a significant milestone in our careers. In October 2023, executive producer Conor Welch exclusively shared, "He was constantly on our minds. The expectations were extremely high. Even though he wasn't physically present in the writers room, his influence was undeniable."

What Can ‘Goosebumps’ Readers Expect?

In October 2023, executive producer Pavun Shetty shared with Us about how the writers room approached telling the stories in a new way.

"We had the opportunity to access a wide range of books, which was wonderful. We carefully selected not only the most popular titles, but also stories that truly addressed the emotions and struggles that the kids were experiencing at that time. These stories were incredibly impactful for our kids," Shetty explained. "Each story is closely intertwined with the personal journeys of our characters, making them even more terrifying for both the characters in the show and, hopefully, the audience. One of the reasons why the book series stands the test of time is because R.L. Stine always grounded his stories in relatable, enduring issues."

What Message Is at the Center of the Show?

“Adolescents are confronted with feelings of alienation, heartbreak, and identity. These are universal experiences, regardless of whether one attended high school in the '90s or is currently attending high school,” Welch expressed to Us. “Furthermore, when you intertwine these emotions and challenges with hauntings, horrors, and scares that directly resonate with these issues, it transforms into an immensely enjoyable and relatable encounter.”

Shetty expressed his belief that there is potential for additional episodes in the future. He mentioned that there are numerous books available to draw inspiration from, with the show having already used five of the most popular ones. Additionally, there are subtle references to other books throughout. Shetty emphasized that there is an abundance of material and frightening stories to explore. He also noted that the season finale left room for continuation, as the character dynamics and relationships evolved significantly. This presents a new set of challenges that the core group can navigate in future seasons.
