Highlights
Grand Theft Auto and Fortnite may seem like an unlikely crossover, but the success of Fortnite's collaborations with other IPs makes it feasible.
Fortnite has partnered with a wide range of characters from different media sources, such as Marvel, DC, athletes, and streamers, giving them a fresh twist on the game.
The immense success and cultural significance of Grand Theft Auto, despite its violent and mature content, make it a strong contender for a collaboration with Fortnite. This is especially true when considering Fortnite's previous collaborations with adult-oriented properties like Rick and Morty and Evil Dead.
Grand Theft Auto may not initially seem like a likely candidate for a crossover with Fortnite, but the idea is not entirely implausible. While the two games have very few similarities apart from the presence of guns, there are potential advantages in such a collaboration. Fortnite has demonstrated considerable success in working with other intellectual properties in the past, and Grand Theft Auto could join the roster of guest characters, with more collaborations likely in the future.
Over the years, Fortnite has seen a multitude of crossovers, whether through its ever-changing item shop or special events. Characters from various forms of media have made their way onto Fortnite's island alongside the game's original skins. Notably, both Marvel and DC characters have had appearances in the game, making it perhaps one of the most significant crossovers between the two companies. Even athletes and streamers have been immortalized as Fortnite skins. At this point, it seems almost any character can be reimagined as a Fortnite skin.
As Strange as it Sounds, GTA Could Have a Way Into Fortnite
One notable omission from the roster of potential Fortnite crossovers is the highly acclaimed Grand Theft Auto series. Its absence can be attributed to the series' notoriety for its explicit and violent content, with Grand Theft Auto 5 serving as a prime example. Although Fortnite carries a T-rating, it is known for its large following of young fans, making the inclusion of the adult-themed characters from Grand Theft Auto seem incongruous.
However, it is impossible to overlook the remarkable success of the Grand Theft Auto series. With multiple chart-topping releases, especially the monumental success of Grand Theft Auto 5, the franchise has solidified its place in gaming history. Moreover, it has permeated popular culture, as evidenced by the enduring popularity of memes derived from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Given its immense popularity and allure, Grand Theft Auto unquestionably presents an enticing prospect for a Fortnite crossover.
Content may exist that could make it easier for a Grand Theft Auto crossover to occur in Fortnite. Rick and Morty, a boldly raunchy adult animated series, has already had multiple Fortnite crossover skins. And it's not the only mature audience-oriented property to make it into Fortnite. Last year, Ash from Evil Dead entered the game, and the most recent Fortnitemares introduced slasher icon Michael Myers. It's worth noting that these characters are toned down versions of themselves and their original source material. Given this track record, it's possible that notable Grand Theft Auto characters like Franklin and CJ could find their way into Fortnite. While it's uncertain if a Grand Theft Auto and Fortnite crossover is in development, the concept is not out of the question. Considering the unexpected crossover skins seen in Fortnitemares 2023, it may be more plausible than ever before. It seems that Fortnite has a knack for seamlessly integrating characters from various backgrounds into its collection of skins. Therefore, there is a good chance that it could offer a lighter interpretation of some iconic Grand Theft Auto characters. While it may not be the most obvious choice, Grand Theft Auto could certainly offer up some of its characters for Fortnite.
Fortnite is available now for Mobile, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
