How to Beat Barnabas
In the previous main scenario quest of Final Fantasy 16, Clive and his allies reach the continent of Ash after a long journey. However, very few individuals have dared to set foot on Ash due to the oppressive rule of Barnabas, resulting in limited knowledge about the continent. Despite this, Clive's ultimate mission is to locate and destroy the final Mothercrystal, which is located there.
Unfortunately, Clive and his allies cannot proceed on their journey to thwart Ultima until they deal with Barnabas, who fiercely guards the Mothercrystal. Barnabas must be defeated in order to remove the barrier hindering their progress. Hence, players of Final Fantasy 16 must put an end to Barnabas's reign before continuing their quest. Brace yourselves for what lies ahead as the next main scenario quest, "The Last King", begins.
This walkthrough contains spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.
Ascend the Tower
As players embark on this quest, their path is initially limited to only one direction: the ascent up the tower via the leftward ramp. However, reaching the pinnacle will not come without challenges, as players will immediately face off against Fallen constructs in combat. Once the adversaries have been vanquished, the next step is to interact with the door, allowing further progression up the tower. Similar to the mechanics in "Buried Memories," elevators facilitate the vertical movement. By simply positioning oneself in the center of the expansive platform, it will initiate its motion.
Upon reaching the top of the elevator, players will encounter additional enemies to defeat before proceeding. Moving forward, a Fallen Guardian awaits, though it offers no significant deviation from previous encounters. Defeating this Guardian will lead players to the next room where another elevator awaits. On the next floor, players must be prepared to confront a Purple Bavarois, a slime monster that utilizes thunder magic unlike its predecessors.
Once the Purple Bavarois is defeated, players should continue their journey to encounter yet another group of Fallen constructs in the subsequent room. Moreover, even more Fallen constructs will launch attacks in the room after that, making it essential for players to heal themselves if necessary. Another elevator is located nearby, but players must be fully prepared for a boss fight before proceeding further.
How to Beat Soultaker
Use the Stairs
The appearance of Soultaker bears a striking resemblance to that of the Undertaker boss encountered earlier in the game. It employs similar offensive techniques, such as performing a forceful foot stomp and unleashing powerful punches to the ground. Additionally, the boss has the ability to unleash the Spirit Within, an attack that inflicts substantial damage which players must avoid at all costs. However, besides these elements, Soultaker lacks any remarkable traits or abilities. As long as players successfully evade the majority of its attacks, they should face no significant challenges in defeating this boss.
After emerging victorious against the Soultaker, players in Final Fantasy 16 are granted the freedom to press onward. Rather than utilizing an elevator, they will be required to ascend a ledge and navigate a lengthy, meandering staircase. Eventually, these stairs will guide players to a new area. Proceed through the door to discover an additional elevator, enabling them to ascend higher up the tower. Stepping onto this elevator embarks players on a cinematic experience, immediately followed by another exhilarating encounter with a formidable boss.
How to Beat Control Node
The Control Node may not appear as menacing as the Soultaker, but it poses a formidable challenge for players. Periodically, one of its pistons will emerge, shooting out a concentrated beam of energy that players must be prepared to dodge. Additionally, the Control Node can unleash an electric pulse attack.
When the boss's health reaches 75%, it will cast Short Circuit, causing all the pistons to emerge simultaneously. Energy beams will then emanate from the boss, seemingly coming from every possible direction. Players should primarily focus on evading until this assault comes to an end. Eventually, the boss will commence an ability indicated by a purple energy bar. Players should swiftly deplete this bar to prevent the attack from being executed. At this point, the boss will no longer employ any other attacks apart from the piston energy beam. If this appears too effortless, there is a valid explanation for it.
How to Beat Aurum Giant
After the Control Node is destroyed, a formidable being called the Aurum Giant joins the battle. Wielding a colossal sword and shield, it occasionally leaves damaging lines on the ground with its attacks.
When the Aurum Giant reaches 75% health, it initiates the Golden Section attack. During this assault, its sword grows even larger, and the boss unleashes a series of exploding circles on the ground. It's crucial to steer clear of these circles to avoid harm.
Once the Aurum Giant's health dips below 50%, it unleashes the Aetherial Assault Cannon. Attacks rain down from above, and circles indicate their impending impact zones. Evade these circles to escape getting hurt, all while dodging the Aurum Giant's close-range combat moves.
Upon reaching 25% health, the Aurum Giant reprises the Golden Section attack. Continue battling the Aurum Giant with determination, and in due course, it will be defeated.
At the culmination of the two encounters with formidable bosses, players will find themselves edging closer to the pinnacle of the tower. Positioned to the left of the incline lies a Potion and a High Potion, serving as valuable resources. Once prepared, ascend the ramp and proceed towards a door, taking care to ensure that your health is fully restored before stepping into the adjoining room. Brace yourself for yet another intense boss battle that lies ahead.
How to Beat Barnabas
In the upcoming encounter, players will once again engage in intense combat with Barnabas. As seen previously in the game, Barnabas will frequently teleport and launch relentless attacks. It is crucial to closely observe his movements and swiftly evade whenever an opportunity arises. When Barnabas performs Gungir, a radiant beam of light will descend upon the battleground, generating a powerful surge of energy that rapidly expands outward. This formidable assault persists for several seconds before vanishing. Unleash a relentless onslaught upon Barnabas until his health dwindles down to 75%.
A brief cutscene follows, where Barnabas transforms into Odin. Players briefly assume the role of Ifrit for a Cinematic Strike sequence, after which the battle against Barnabas resumes. It is crucial to swiftly position oneself behind Barnabas to avoid being struck by his Blinding Steel attack. Additionally, it is important to avoid standing in any of the lines that appear when Barnabas employs the Lord's Measure. These attacks will continue until Barnabas reaches approximately 50% of his total health.
After a brief cutscene and a Cinematic Clash, the battle recommences. Barnabas will now attempt to unleash the same devastating ability that proved overpowering in the previous encounter. This time, however, players in Final Fantasy 16 have the opportunity to interrupt and nullify the attack. Nevertheless, it will not be an easy feat, as Barnabas will spare no effort in hindering players from interrupting his assault. Alongside building up for his ultimate move, Barnabas will persistently employ the Lord's Measure and Blinding Steel techniques.
After the failed attack, Barnabas intensifies his menacing nature. He will unleash a fresh wave of devastating assaults, although they possess a considerable wind-up time, rendering them relatively easier to evade. To add to the complexity of the situation, Barnabas will also cast consecutive abilities such as Gungir and the Lord's Measure.
When Barnabas reaches approximately 35% health, he transforms into Odin. Evade his attacks until he reverts back to Barnabas, then launch your own counterattacks. Barnabas will continue to alternate between the aforementioned attacks until he is defeated. The ongoing main scenario quest concludes after a series of extensive cutscenes. You can now play Final Fantasy 16 on PlayStation 5.
