Highlights
If Newt Scamander, the renowned magizoologist and writer of the famous book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, had been a professor at Hogwarts, his insatiable wanderlust and passion for uncovering extraordinary magical creatures would have posed a challenge for him to establish a permanent presence within the teaching staff.
Oliver Wood, the ex-captain of Gryffindor's Quidditch team, could have pursued a career as a Flying instructor or coach at Hogwarts had his professional Quidditch aspirations not materialized.
Lily Potter, renowned for her expertise in Potions and Charms and esteemed for her nurturing demeanor, would have excelled as a Hogwarts teacher and served as an admirable figure for aspiring young wizards and witches.
Given that Hogwarts is the sole school of witchcraft and wizardry in the British Isles, the majority of its professors are individuals who were once students there. Throughout the primary Harry Potter series as well as other related films and games set in the Wizarding World, there exist numerous characters who have the potential to become future professors at Hogwarts.
Moreover, there are certain Harry Potter characters who made different career choices or unfortunately passed away before they could fulfill their aspirations of teaching. However, if circumstances had been different, they would have been valuable additions to the staff at Hogwarts. In addition to possessing a proficiency in a specific field of magic, Hogwarts professors must also possess other qualities, particularly due to the fact that Hogwarts is a residential boarding school with a propensity for mischief.
7 Newt Scamander
As a professional magizoologist and the author of popular textbooks like Fantastic Beats and Where To Find Them, Newt Scamander possessed the perfect qualifications to impart his knowledge at Hogwarts. Imagining his enthusiasm for magical creatures inspiring the students is effortless, and his innate charm would have undoubtedly made him a beloved figure among them.
However, envisioning Newt Scamander limiting himself to a single location for the majority of the year, despite the allure of the Scottish Highlands, proves challenging. Newt's true passion lies in traversing the globe in pursuit of elusive and endangered magical creatures.
6 Oliver Wood
Oliver Wood, the Keeper and captain of Gryffindor's Quidditch team during Harry's early years at the school, was instrumental in teaching Harry the game and honing his skills as a renowned Seeker.
Throughout the series, Oliver Wood dedicated his summers to creating innovative training programs and provided his team with detailed strategies for games and training sessions. Even though he later joined Puddlemere United as a reserve player in The Goblet of Fire, Wood possessed the potential to excel as a competent and passionate Flying instructor, referee, and coach, should his professional Quidditch career not unfold as anticipated.
5 Bathilda Bagshot
The renowned History of Magic instructor, Professor Binns, has held his position for a considerable length of time, earning a reputation for lulling students to sleep. However, another individual who could have excelled at this role is the esteemed magical historian, Bathilda Bagshot.
Although her personality remains somewhat elusive, Bathilda Bagshot would have been highly qualified for the position. Notably, she is the author of the renowned books A History of Magic and Hogwarts: A History, thus possessing extensive knowledge in the subject matter. Furthermore, her close association with Professor Dumbledore, who had a tendency to appoint friends as teachers, would have made her selection a reasonable choice.
4 Harry Potter
Harry's demonstration in The Order of the Phoenix, where he assumed the position of instructor for Dumbledore's Army, revealed his potential as an excellent Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts. Despite facing subpar teachers throughout his education, Harry consistently excelled in the subject and ultimately pursued a career as an Auror.
Given that Hogwarts represented his initial true home, it is not challenging to envision Harry returning to the school. Each summer, he yearned for the castle and the sense of belonging it provided.
3 Natsai Onai
Natsai Onai, a remarkable individual in the world of Hogwarts Legacy, exhibits exceptional knowledge in various magical disciplines, high moral standards, and natural charm. While her future following the game's events remains uncertain, it is plausible that she could have pursued a teaching position at Hogwarts.
Similar to the Transfiguration professor during Harry Potter's era, Natsai is also an Animagus, and her ability would undoubtedly captivate students. Her expertise lies primarily in Charms, Transfiguration, and dueling. Furthermore, Natsai's mother, a previous Hogwarts professor herself, could have provided valuable guidance if Natsai chose a career in education.
2 Lily Potter
Little known to many, contrary to the casting choices in the movies, Lily Potter met her untimely demise shortly after graduating from Hogwarts, during the prime of her life. As the head girl, she displayed the remarkable qualities of an exceptional and responsible student, which often translate into the traits required for teaching.
Regarding the subjects Lily Potter could have excelled in as a Hogwarts professor, Professor Slughorn asserted that she stood among the finest he had ever taught in Potions. Additionally, she garnered a splendid reputation for her proficiency in Charms. Her innate ability to care for others would have made her an extraordinary role model for young wizards and witches, whose well-being she would have prioritized.
1 Hermione Granger
Hermione Granger possessed a remarkable level of knowledge, surpassing her peers at Hogwarts with her ability to readily recite information from her textbooks. Throughout her time at the prestigious school of magic, Hermione not only spent countless hours proofreading and correcting Harry and Ron's homework, but also demonstrated exceptional leadership and organizational capabilities.
Although Hermione ultimately chose a path in politics within the canon, her extensive knowledge and aptitude would undoubtedly have made her a sought-after professor at Hogwarts, capable of teaching a multitude of subjects.
