Ever since its introduction in One Piece by Eiichiro Oda, Conqueror's Haki has become a highly coveted skill that allows individuals to impose their will on others. This rare power can be used to incapacitate opponents, render them unconscious, or enhance the offensive capabilities of a user's attacks. Many of the strongest characters in One Piece, such as Shanks, Monkey D. Garp, Whitebeard, Kaido, Big Mom, Silvers Rayleigh, Kozuki Oden, and Gol D. Roger, are extremely skilled Conqueror's Haki users. While these individuals belong to the older generation of pirates who once dominated the seas, a new group of up-and-coming pirates known as the Worst Generation has emerged. Comprising 12 notorious pirates who gained prominence between the Golden Age of Piracy and the New Age after the Summit War of Marineford, these pirates, particularly the "Supernovas," arrived at the Sabaody Archipelago and ventured into the New World simultaneously. Since their introduction, many of them have either formed alliances with or clashed against the Straw Hats, playing significant roles in the ongoing narrative, particularly in the Final Saga. Given their potential impact on the story moving forward, it is important to assess their proficiency in utilizing Conqueror's Haki in its various forms.
The Clear Winner
During his two-year training with Rayleigh, Luffy honed his usage of the Color of the Supreme King to the point where he could activate it at will, a significant improvement from his previous haphazard approach during the Summit War of Marineford. By the time of the Fishman Island Arc, Luffy's mastery of Conqueror's Haki allowed him to instantly incapacitate tens of thousands of weaker opponents, showcasing his remarkable progress. Additionally, Luffy had been focusing on developing his advanced Armament Haki, known as Ryuo in Wano, prior to his final showdown with Kaido. While this played a role in their battle, it was the realization that he could infuse his attacks with Conqueror's Haki that truly elevated his power and enabled him to fight on equal footing. Furthermore, Luffy's Devil Fruit Awakening further enhanced his abilities, granting him the freedom to unleash his full potential and secure a decisive victory against Kaido.
Initially, his control over this ability was still quite unrefined, but he managed to refine and enhance it during the course of the battle. Eventually, he gained such a high level of mastery that it was almost comparable to Kaido himself. As a result, Luffy has now become proficient in utilizing the powers of domination, incapacitation, and even infusing Conqueror's Haki into his attacks. It can be confidently stated that among the Worst Generation, Luffy is the most skilled in harnessing this form of Haki.
The Next Best
In addition to Luffy, the Worst Generation has only two other known users of Conqueror's Haki: Roronoa Zoro and Eustass Kid. Zoro's ability to use Conqueror's Haki was revealed quite late in the Wano Arc, during his fight against Big Mom and Kaido. It was only through the statements of Big Mom and Kaido that Zoro became aware of his potential to harness this power. In fact, he was able to deal a significant blow to Kaido, who is known for his nearly impenetrable skin, a feat previously achieved only by Kozuki Oden.
Zoro was able to unlock his Conqueror's Haki through his possession of Enma, the legendary sword of Kozuki Oden. With every swing, Enma drained Zoro's Haki, awakening his dormant Conqueror's Haki during his battles against Kaido and the Lunarian King. Once aware of this ability, Zoro quickly incorporated it into his attacks, taking his swordsmanship to new heights. The discovery of his Conqueror's Haki was anticipated by many and played a crucial role in his ultimate victory over King.
In contrast, Kid is said to have possessed this power from the beginning of the Wano Arc, as mentioned by Kaido. However, he was still no match for the Emperor's expertise and suffered a quick defeat. Despite his fight against Big Mom, Kid did not display significant progress in using Conqueror's Haki, relying more on his Devil Fruit Awakening and cooperation with Trafalgar Law. When faced with Shanks, an advanced Conqueror's Haki user, Kid was completely defenseless and easily defeated, highlighting his need to improve before reaching the level of the Red Hair Pirates' captain. As the true extent of his Conqueror's Haki abilities and infusion remains unclear, and given his lack of demonstration in these areas, Zoro surpasses Kid in terms of Conqueror's Haki prowess.
The Potential Wildcards
Marshall D. Teach, also known as Blackbeard, remains a question mark when it comes to possessing Conqueror's Haki. As the Admiral of the Blackbeard Pirates and one of the strongest Yonko, he demonstrated his overwhelming power by easily defeating Law and his crew after they left Wano. Despite this, there has been no evidence or mention of Blackbeard utilizing Conqueror's Haki.
However, being portrayed as one of the final antagonists in the series, it would be nearly impossible for him to survive in the New World without this power. The only obstacle he may face is his cowardly and scheming nature, which sets him apart from other Conqueror's Haki users in One Piece. Unlike them, he lacks the bravery to never back down from a fight and lacks the qualities of a true king. It will be intriguing to see how this situation unfolds for Blackbeard. In order to become an Emperor of the Sea and navigate the New World successfully, one must possess the ability to use Conqueror's Haki. Unless Oda has something more sinister up his sleeve that Teach has been concealing, it remains to be seen how Blackbeard will overcome this challenge.
